We are so excited to come to Turner Contemporary in Margate this Sunday for our very first Family Film Day!

Our morning session starts at 10.30am with✨CINEMINI✨ a magical first cinema experience specially created for children under five and their families.

After the screening, there's plenty of time to explore our cinematic playground, where little ones can discover colour, movement, light and shadow through open-ended sensory play inspired by the films.

To finish, we'll watch the films again. Young children love repetition, it helps them notice new details, make connections between what they've seen and what they've explored through play, and build confidence in the cinema environment.

What if rainbows were people from the future?

ARCO (cert. PG) is a beautiful and exciting adventure about a boy who crash-lands from the year 2075.

It has everything we love about children's cinema: big ideas, plenty of humour, and a story that treats children with respect.

It’s one of our favourite films of the year, and we’re delighted to bring it to young audiences in Margate as we launch our brand-new collaboration with Turner Contemporary.

And because no Small World Cinema screening is complete without creativity, before the film children can explore colour and light with our giant kaleidoscope and make their own rainbow kaleidoscopes to take home.

Join Small World Cinema this Summer for a special two-day workshop where we delve into the world of art, design and film.

Inspired by the magical world of Studio Ghibli we experiment with different model-making techniques and build our own detailed miniature house. 

A relaxed and creative workshop for local (pre-) teens to learn new skills, talk about films and make new friends.
 
No experience needed.

We had an amazing collection of recycled materials to work with in our From Scrap to Screen animation workshop, thanks to the team at Depot Cinema Restaurant, who diligently saved bottle tops, corks and sparkling wine wire cages for us to transform into characters and props.

It was hard work in the heat, but we loved creating alongside all the children and parents who joined us. There was plenty of imagination and teamwork on display, and we’re proud of the result. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped bring these scraps to life on screen! ✨

We are so excited to be part of Lewisham Libraries’ Local Film Festival next Saturday, 30th May! 🎬🌿

Join us at Downham Library from 2:30–3:30pm for a special✨Cinemini✨session for children, filled with cinematic sensory play, relaxed short film screenings, immersive projectors, lightboxes, and colours galore. More info and booking:

Together we’ll explore storytelling through play and discover hands-on early literacy skills inspired by cinema. Taking inspiration from the beautiful Downham Fields and Hither Green’s flock of twittering parakeets right on our doorstep, this session will have a nature theme running throughout 🦜

This ✨Cinemini✨session is specifically designed for families with SEN, disabilities, and neurodivergence. There will be a chilled soft seating area, plus colouring and Duplo tables away from the main activity space. Families are welcome to come and go throughout the session, creating a relaxed, hands-on, fun, and judgement-free environment for everyone.
