The Island is a self-funded multi use arts facility and creation centre based in the old police station in Bristol city centre. It hosts a wide variety of creative spaces from circus training, dance and rehearsal rooms, making spaces and artists studios to dark rooms, recording and music production studios, a gallery and a suite of early 20th century police cells. If you want to get involved in a

collaborative showcase event in Bristol then the Island is the place to do it. Like the name suggests, the Island is an isolated centre of creativity and energy located smack bang in the city centre. As a venue, it has so many unique event spaces and a can-do attitude making it ideal for a Bristol event. The Island is part of the Artspace Lifespace project, an artist led initiative that recycles vacant, under-used and problem properties into thriving active creative resources and has been active since 2008.

Fish Tank is a monthly open mic for the unpolished, newly crafted, and the experimental.
We are open to spoken word, song, poetry, experimental sounds, and anything new.

If you’ve ever wanted a space to just try your work outside the confines of your mind and to share it with an open and welcoming audience, this is your chance.

Starting in September, every first Wednesday of the month The Island Gallery will make space for Bristol’s creatives.

This is a trial run for this series, and if successful or a community forms, we can continue holding space for it!
Join in on the first Wednesday of every month, 7 - 10pm, starting September 2nd.

Drop in, no fee. Book via Headfirst Bristol, link in bio.

"We started experimenting with creating voice from the body together as part of our residency at The Island. We are now offering you the opportunity to join our creative lab, sharing hands on self care techniques, playful sound making, questioning and creating safe space for improvisation starting from the body."

Join Jenna Brown, Chez Dunford and Eleanor Hooper for an explorative Voice For Performance workshop.

'Guilt Removed' is a body of work that explores the complexities of growing up. Artist Jeremy Robinson looks at his relationship with his family and encourages viewers to bring their own experiences into the space.

Jeremy's parents had divorced during his late teen years and that had caused a large rift between him and them. This rift has never fully healed and this work looks at the past, present and future of dealing with a complex family relationship.
