Hi,
In the late summer of 2015 at the Dean Lane Hardcore Funday my friend Ben asked me if I wanted to start a regular night at the Surrey Vaults. It's simple.

Totality started as a regular underground, DIY night at Surrey Vaults back in 2015 then continued hosting shows and all dayers all over Bristol while more recently venturing headfirst into running as an independent record label as well. I was pretty f**ked up at the time and said something typical of me like 'f**k yeah man totally." We met up, had a beer and discussed the plan. One band and few DJ

s on a Saturday night. The only caveat was to avoid the standard Bristol club nights such as dub, hip hop, electronic dance music and all that. As most of you know I love and have massive respect for those genres but I liked the challenge. Like even when the night gets real messy instead grabbing ODB's baby i got your money we head for the MC5 or Heroin 7 inches. There will definitely be generator, motoric, sludge, blues, deep folk, country and jazz in there as well as music from our mates. I've asked a few friends already if they want to play or DJ and we've got some f**king cool people lined up to get us through the Autumn and Winter. The night is TOTALITY named after the Unwound track from 1994. It was an important transition to entering my 20s. Growing up with so many different kinds of rad bands and artists like Moondog or Crass or Sabbath forced me into the direction of people like Tortoise, Unwound and Polvo. It was the whole of something - something f**ked and perfect. They weren't trying to be another f**king Nirvana in a time where if they had they would of had hits and been riding the gravy train. We get a lot of requests to play, but we mainly operate on an invite only basis. Please don't let that stop you from sending us your music. We will get back to you if we want you to play and if we don't think it will work for Totality we'll suggest other DIY nights you might want to try hitting up.

Super stoked to share that Jake Healy’s new album ‘Life Splice’ will be out on Totality at the end of October.

Life Splice has a pretty different approach to his previous work. It’s a beautifully bold, fresh take on Jake’s process where the listener will witness a more focussed, clear headed creative mind exploring sonic depths and ripping grooves with savvy ex*****on.

In turn the album feels dense and dangerous through the detail and refinement but you can hear Healy’s been in the club, been studying the masters, listening to his peers with nothing but respect and pure joy for the breaks. It’s definitely some kind of bonus level-up extra life action that Ellie Godwin and Jessica Ball are on the mega hits ‘Yearn 4’ and ‘Version Of’.

It’s been an awesome experience to co-produce this one with Jake and as a friend I’m grateful he trusted me to get involved. Huge thanks to Stephen Kerrison for doing wicked work taking ‘Life Splice’ to the next level while mastering. Sounds dreamy!

The first track to be released is hauntingly sun shadowed ‘Grand Stretch’ which you can stream everywhere but if you can, jump straight to the gorgeous video Yogi Nagam created. Stunning work.

We threw a wicked Olanza album launch party at Moor for the Human Worth released, self titled full length second album. Recorded with Wayne (Bear Bites Horse) at Giant Wafer, Wales.

Was nice to celebrate something we poured so much intense energy into. Proud and honoured to have had this happen in my life.

I believe Rank couldn’t make it which was obviously a downer but man, Lung and Beige Lord slayed and Jake’s dj selections were perfect. Shaun’s Matador Fail illustration is so rad it made it t-shirt status. 🙏🏽

Note the hand written date, my bad - only had 40 posters to do. 🤦🏻

Sugar Horse being the total dudes they are have not only asked me to DJ for tomorrow’s rager at Exchange but generously offered Totality a space on the merch table.

I’m cycling down so I’ll bring a handful of vinyl, CD and tapes from No Violet, WONT, Sophrosyne, Jake Healy, Olanza, Rank and Repo Man.

Strong chance I’ll also be shouting about the upcoming Ritual Error album ‘Terminal With Benefit’ that Totality is releasing in September. If you wanna reserve a copy in person hit me up.

Wayne and Baba Yaga threw an unmissable rager at Strong Rooms last Saturday. Line up was f**king dreamy. My visit was brief but I managed to catch the completely feral set from Ritual Error. Nice work guys, rowdy as hell! Rad to catch up with my London crew as well. Miss y’all 🖤

Honoured, terrified and excited to have been invited to DJ at Sugar Horse’s little party at Exchange in a couple weeks. The line is gorgeously stacked with all kinds of excellent noise.

I have no idea what I’ll be djing yet! Started a set a couple weeks back then my laptop died so may just be unwound 7s for an hour (oh noo).

I’ll be slinging all the finest Totality merch (thanks Jake) at the bar as well.

3 years back on this day Totality did a STACKED rager at Moor Brewery. It was an unbelievable day. Heavy, rowdy life affirming action!

Ritual Error, Nietzsche Trigger Finger, Black Shape, Sly & The Family Drone, A.L. Lacey, Deadpop, Olanza and Knives. Sadly Downard and Working Man’s weren’t able to make the show, we’ll have to rectify that one day!

Join us in dark celebrations as the latest WON’T album, ‘BOOK 8’ is out today.

Matt’s knack of ripping your heart out with epic, savagely long tracks while managing to keep cohesion and the listener wanting more is truly a gift.

It’s a privilege for Totality to present ‘Book 8’ to you on CD, limited glass master CDs no less so don’t mess around and grab a copy soon as ye can if ya dig. It’s a beautiful record and ugly as sin at the same time. Some of the raddest ideas I’ve heard in a while. Looking forward to more (more of the same more of the same).
