simply a delight for collectors.
Back on exclusive eco vinyl, It's the album that redefined "downtempo", and brought us 'Eyesdown' and 'Kiara' foremostly, as Simon Green aka Bonobo stripped things down to a vinylized, live-instrumental feel for his fourth LP. The pivot from his earlier sample-heavy approach was already underway, but Black Sands pushed it further into nylon guitar, Rhodes and electric bass, though the productions are crystalline enough to still feel electronic at heart. Ninja Tune labelmate Andreya Triana features on three of these exquisite tracks, where the soul singer-songwriter noted that the collaboations emerged organically from within Bonobo's then-Brighton orbit. the pivot from his earlier sample-heavy approach toward a live instrumentation feel was already underway on previous records, but Black Sands pushed it further - nylon guitar, Fender Rhodes, electric bass threading through productions that still read as electronic at their core. Andreya Triana provides vocals on three tracks, including 'Eyesdown' and the quietly devastating 'The Keeper'. The closing title track, a multi-instrumental waltz that builds steadily to horns, remains the most complete thing on the album. The ReVINYL pressing comes on 100% recycled wax this edition, so each copy looks slightly different - eco-mix colouring varies by unit.
