Chalguh Chengi – ‘spirit of live music and dance’ in Turkish – is a vibrant, colourful and accessible exploration of some of the myriad folk and classical music and dance styles rooted in the traditions of Turkey, the Balkans and the Middle East. Introducing the evocative sounds of an array of Middle Eastern Percussion, Oud, Saz, Zurna, Piano Accordion, Clarinet, Violin and Classical Kemence, with the beautiful vocals of Sevilay and spectacular dance by Anna Kemper. All our 2021 performances are outdoor and, thanks to support from Arts Council England, most are free to the public! **Asterisk indicates a small ticket fee applies. The six accomplished multi-instrumentalists of Hazir play a rich array of acoustic instruments, with Sevilay’s voice evoking the beautiful sounds of her homeland Turkey. She has shared stages with some of the greatest artists of the genre, including Turkish fusion band Oojami, bellydance superstar Sonia Ochoa and Egyptian band Baladi Blues Ensemble. Commissions include teaching and performing within community and outreach organisations as well as the London Olympics. This project is supported by Arts Council England.
