Greetings!

Pictured: just a few weeks ago, yours truly catching rays in-between books on Brighton beach; basking in the last of the summer wine… now free and easy swim wear trades places with serious rain macs, solid scarves and signature berets for hanging in the hall on standby. Changing seasons aside, I’ve managed to pen something light. Sis and me were in hysterics together following my recent FaceTime performance! And I am keenly aware that for various reasons family members are not always considered our best critics — mine are pretty candid, I have to say. And either way, I tend to go with my gut. [And a trusted editor]. So, some light verse coming soon… Onwards. Sx 🍂

Greetings!

Hello October & Happy National Poetry Day! 🍂📚

There’s much sadness in the world & there’s always music & poetry to help us through.

I am pleased to share my poem: ‘Uncle Tim’s Vinyl.’ 🎵 [Uncle Tim approves].

Last month, 1 September, I was featured in the Irish Edition of the Candyman’s Trumpet Poetry Magazine with my poem ‘Oh Boy’ — this month I’m featured in the Welsh Edition — double bubble!

I’m delighted to say that I have two poems published today with TcT on National Poetry Day — a second outing for both poems
as previously published in my debut poetry collection: ‘Shift Happens.’

Thanks again to curator, Jack Caradoc & this month’s guest curator, Carolyn Thomas, who kindly offered me a same day acceptance for publishing my two poems, cheerfully embracing my Welsh ancestry ‘in the mix.’

I’m also playing a fitting family favourite song
from The King, & hope this joyous version makes you laugh & cry with Elvis as much as us huddled around the record player.

Pictured: a snapshot of lunchtime today on New Road, Brighton — I took the call to action, to take part in performance arts activism with Brighton & Hove Pal🍉estine Solidarity Campaign [BHPSC]., and Brighton & Hove Stop the War Coalition. Playing dead in symbolic die-in; marking and mourning 3 years of gen ocide. Complete stillness and silence as the bell tolled. Our cue to rise up from the dead, the soothing choral sounds of the Brighton Liberation Choir 🕊️

When I’m not gigging or writing, I’m mostly thinking about writing, and eating, and also singing [like no one’s listening…].

Greetings!

A poem from me from the archives : ‘Killing Me Softly’, first published by US online magazine : The Yellow Chair Review 💛

Moreover, last Sunday, 6 September, I tuned into BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship — a commemorative anniversary service; broadcast from St Paul’s Chapel and Saint Nicholas, New York. The programme featured heartfelt stories, with a gentle reminder of our shared humanity. I felt like I was back in New York, which also feels like a lifetime ago. Whether one aligns spiritually —the secular, non partisan commemorative programme, felt deeply human, and is available on BBC Sounds for a few weeks.

I have noticed that whenever I post about human connection, those I’ve experienced a disconnect with, [usually due to unwanted transactional agendas, misaligned values, or intuition], suddenly pop up over the ether. I believe personal boundaries are healthy and human, too.

Having just pasted link to said radio programme, I’m reminded that external links reportedly lower FB post reach, as it is a part of the algorithm’s job to keep FB users passively scrolling on its app…

My FB page insights show me that my FB posts reach on average 500-1k users— those numbers seem to represent high passive consumption versus active engagement, which only proves to me that I’ve outgrown this venue, which I’ve known for sometime, and shall park further thoughts on this for now.

Thinking of everyone impacted by the themes covered in my poem, and said radio programme. Sx🕊️

Hello September 🍂🍃🍂

I am delighted to breeze into this new season with a NEW poem: ‘Oh Boy’, selected for the Irish Edition of The Candyman’s Trumpet — a beautifully curated independent digital poetry magazine from Jack Caradoc, with special guest curator, Marty McKenna — thanks again to Jack and Marty for featuring my writing.

I hope you enjoy reading my poem: ‘Oh Boy’. My mother appreciated it, the editors chose it, and if my father and paternal grandparents from County Kerry were alive, I’d like to think they’d approve, too. (That it wasn’t all true).
