Greetings!

So, having disappointed some, not having done a run of my fantastically reviewed 2025 ‘Spirit of the Fringe’ spoken word show: “Amuse-bouche” this 2026 festival season. Although reasons accepted — laying low while developing new material. I still managed to get pulled into Brighton’s high octane festival vibes in support of other artist’s work — performing ensemble in the main festival programme, and mentoring and cheerleading on the fringe.

Allowing space not to stage another one-woman show this year [which involves a lot behind the scenes, as some of you will appreciate] to focus on new writing [which I have and am feeling stoked!] I connected with some absolute gems I may have otherwise missed, had I remained in my solo artist bubble again this year… I got to reconnect with an old arts lecturer, by taking the call to perform in their site-specific arts activism piece: CHAIR! Any socially engaged [and inconvenienced] residents and visitors of Brighton will have observed the erosion of seating in public spaces — not least the removal of benches on New Road; opposite Theatre Royal, where rough sleepers dared to congregate and make the best of their bad situations; through music and banter — how very dare they…!

Moving on, I was flattered when a Bristol-based poet respectfully wrote to me inviting me to see their show, requesting artistic feedback for improvement— I’ve never advertised this, [I’d never get anything done if I did!]., only I have been known to freely mentor performance artists upon request; many with imposter syndrome, over the ether and in person over the decades —others have simply attended my gigs to observe, learn and flourish [with greater marketing skillz than I!] For deeper and authentic study, my low cost, 5 star reviewed classes are best for development — I intend to run more in the foreseeable.

“Up Your Vision!” Brighton’s alternative Eurovision was ‘beyond epic’ — hosted by Brighton’s brilliant Brister! And last night, I got the party started — first one on the dance floor for ‘You’ve Got To Show Me Love.’ And later, You Got The Love.’ [Cool host, Ted thanked me for bringing the energy]. Loved how these Gen Z artists got this Gen X artist vibing at “Spit Nights” at TOM. So much socially engaged talent in one room! And straight after, I ran away with the circus at midnight for “Return of the GODZ” in Brighton’s pop up festival Speigel tent! [Highly recommend you go see if you love a bit of camp physical theatre and are in the London locale next month at the Sadlers Wells].

Huge thanks to Brighton Fringe superstar Chair, Duncan and teams, for all their hard work in staging Brighton Fringe Festival, and for kindly shouting me coffee and sharing scintillating backstage stories as our paths crossed during all the mayhem and magic of the fringe! And all the artists and crew — too many wonderful humans and happenings to mention, suffice to say:
I ❤️ Brighton

Mwaah! Sx

Ps. Welcome new followers!

Woo Hoo!

3 x performances of CHAIR! down — x 4 to go, as part of Brighton Festival’s wonderful Weekend Without Walls. 🎉

Thanks to everyone who came out to play today! I haven’t spammed friends and followers about this festival performance — one never fully knows what’s going on in people’s lives, unless you’re an over-sharer, which I’m endeavouring to curb myself, what with the rise of AI and passive consumption… So, it was wonderful to see unexpected friends in the crowd— yoga tribe and neighbours of North Laine, Brighton — Mwaah! 💋

Audience feedback from this afternoon’s three shows has been incredible! One can only show and tell so much because spoiler alerts… Must mention one adorable couple, nicknamed M&M, whom shared how the performance reminded them of the beauty of community as a way of life in China, and how they took lots of photos of our performance to post to parents, telling me that we are going to be BIG in Shanghai! [Bring it on!] 😁

This weekend’s brief was ‘less is more.’ However, I was made aware as a young performer that I have a very mobile face and am a natural comedic artist, and so even without words and walls this weekend, nor intention, I managed to make audiences laugh — with my eyebrows!

Our dear Director, Gerry expressed much appreciation for their cast and crew ensemble — we had a blast! And there’s more…

FOOD! Another favourite subject, [as some of you know from my Spirit of the Fringe solo show, Susan Evans: Amuse-bouche]. Kernel Canteen on Market Square, Circus Street, Brighton — within our outdoor performance space, must be Brighton’s best kept secret! Just opened in January. Dan prepared the best scrambled eggs, ever. I keenly observed Dan whip up eggs and toss a fresh, lightly dressed side salad, and graciously accepted compliments, enthusing about local suppliers. And poured me a tantalising taster of crisp discovery apple juice — I was in heaven! And, how lovely that team Dan and Harriette watched our site specific show from their canteen window, later generously sharing positive thoughts — they just got it! [The show is highly visual].

I’ve also come away with a plethora of invitations from fellow cast members to get amongst other creative stuff happening, and it’s felt refreshing to park my pen, and people for a bit — it is the Brighton May Festival — what made me think I could possibly lie low … [Still recovering from ‘Up Your Vision’ truly ‘beyond epic.’]

CHAIR! has four more runs: Sunday 24 May from 12.30pm. Brighton and beyond, why not swing by en route to beach, park picnic, independent shops, cafes, or other Brighton festival happenings! So much happening. An antidote to the news. Good times! Sx
