Earlier this month, I collaborated with 98 local children from a variety of local schools to create this piece! Painting, drawing and collage were all explored to create the final outcome. This piece is now on display at Y Gaer Museum and Art Gallery, Brecon πΌπ¨π
π¨ Celebrating Creativity and Welsh Heritage π¨
This vibrant artwork, now on display at y Gaer, was created by pupils from local schools during a special St Davidβs Day celebration in Brecon on Monday 2 March 2026.
The event, organised by Brecon Town Council in partnership with local primary schools and supported by Welsh Government funding, brought hundreds of children together to explore and celebrate Welsh culture. Throughout the day, pupils took part in a wide range of activities including folk dancing, storytelling, drama, art and craft, and Welsh cake-making demonstrations β all designed to inspire creativity, confidence, and a deeper connection to Welsh heritage.
This painting was created at the event during a workshop led by local artist Gemma Schiebe. Through hands-on exploration and collaborative creativity, the children expressed their experiences of Wales through colour, imagination, and shared ideas, capturing the joyful spirit of the day in a single piece.
By taking part, the children not only learned about Welsh traditions but also experienced a strong sense of community pride and belonging. This artwork stands as a lasting reminder of their creativity and of a wonderful community celebration of Walesβ rich cultural heritage.
π You can see the artwork on display at y Gaer β we hope it brings you as much joy as it brought the children who created it!
