As well as being an inclusive community music event, we want to do things right and strive to be environmentally sustainable, and a Fair Trade Festival. We shop locally and support local businesses, but for products like tea, coffee, sugar and wine we always buy Fair Trade. Our commitment to Fair Trade is shared with Scotmid Cooperative, and we are delighted to have their support for our festival. We are also delighted to be a member of Scottish Fair Trade.

We’re looking forward to hosting this year’s Voicefest (18-20th September) in the Cathedral. So far tickets have gone on sale for Scottish singer/ songwriter, Horse on the Friday evening.

Horse is described as “one of Scotland’s all-time vocalists” by The Scotsman. If you’ve been listening to Vernon Kay on BBC Radio 2 this week you might’ve heard Loraine Kelly talk about how Horse’s hit song, “Careful” is her favourite song of all time, and how hearing it at a difficult time in her life made a huge impact on her. “Horse is an extraordinary woman… Any time Ive seen her live, it just goes right into your soul” she told Kay.

She’ll be singing live on Radio 4’s Loose ends this weekend if you haven’t heard her. Get your tickets (and more details) to hear her perform in the amazing acoustic of our stunning cathedral on the Voicefest website. Hope to see you there. https://voicefest.org/programme-2

Can’t wait to see Horse play live in Brechin Cathedral for Voicefest this September? You can hear her perform live on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends show this Saturday. This morning though you can hear her Friend, Lorraine Kelly talk about her love of one of Horse’s hits, Careful, which she describes as her “favourite song of all time” on the BBC Radio 2 Vernon Kay show in the Tracks Of My Years feature.

“Horse is the most extraordinary woman, she’s got a voice,” she told Kay. “Anytime I’ve seen her live, it just goes right into your soul”. Lorraine Kelly.

Lorraine has previously talked about the impact of hearing Careful as one of her chosen tracks on Desert Island Discs. Experience the power of the voice of “one of Scotland’s all-time great vocalists” (The Scotsman) yourself live with an amazing cathedral acoustic and we think you’ll definitely know what Loraine is talking about. Horse and her trio, in concert, Brechin Cathedral Friday 18th Sept at 7pm. Tickets £20 and £15 concession romances TicketTailor:

Congratulations to Voicefest team member, Steve Gove MBE. Steve, who was given the accolade through his work as Director of the Prague Fringe Festival is also a Director of Voicefest CIC. He has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by His Majesty King Charles III in recognition of his services to UK/Czech Republic Cultural Relations.

The honour was announced as part of this year’s King’s Birthday Honours. Steve will formally receive the award from a member of the Royal Family at an investiture ceremony in London or Edinburgh later in 2026. We have always been honoured to have him onboard as a Voicefest Director and look forward to him working on this year’s event in September. The picture shows Steve with Depute Provost of Angus, Cllr Jill Scott and Voicefest colleague, Angus Coull (who co-founded the Prague Fringe with Steve 25 years ago), at last year’s Voicefest.

Voicefest and Brechin will get a mention on Czech Radio next month. Myself and another one of the Voicefest team members also happen to be the co-founders of the Prague Fringe Festival which is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Steve Gove still runs the Czech event while I’m in Brechin establishing our voice-based festival (18-20th September, now in its second year). Always good to mention what you’re up to no matter where you are in the world. Hope Voicefest can become as popular an event locally as the Fringe has in Prague. Thanks to Ian Willoughby at Czesky Rozlas for inviting us in for interview on the station relaunched the event on 25 years ago. https://www.praguefringe.com
