Although Voicefest is largely about music, we’re very excited for this event with acclaimed local author and storyteller, Eileen Budd in the historic and atmospheric surroundings of Brechin Cathedral on Sunday Sept 20th. This is an event for all ages (6 up) and will have you enthralled as Eileen brings to life tales of Brechin Brunties, kelpies, mermaids and ogres, with a bit of Gaelic song too. Woven into the stories will be old local words and phrases compiled by primary children in workshops with Eileen. Costume and artefacts are a unique part of this event as Eileen has created a ghost costume specially for it. We really can’t wait for this. Watch the short video clip below.

Magical tales of mermaids, dragons, ogres and kelpies will be brought to life by acclaimed local storyteller, Eileen Budd in the atmospheric surroundings of medieval Brechin Cathedral, Sunday 20th September at 11am.

At this family event we invite you to listen to the spell songs that breathe life and enchantment into our folklore and traditions, and to rediscover how our mythical heritage and Brechin dialect words are woven throughout our local stories of Brunties, Quheilwrichts and Horsefish.

Eileen whose works are featured on BBC Stories in Scots will be working with the local community, to share and rediscover some of the unique words from past local dialect and phrases, and these will be woven into her performance.

Family tickets: (4 people -max 2 adults) £15. Individual; £8/£6 https://voicefest.org/eileen-budd

Thanks to our Voicefest hosts Brechin Cathedral Trust for the plug for the festival. We are so lucky to have this magnificent building as our festival venue. Voicefest is a great way to experience this superb asset to the town. Let's fill the building with music and people!

Angus Coull is self effacing and will never take credit for all that he does for the Cathedral. He has raised significant funds and put together a brilliant weekend for Voicefest. Do have a look at all that is on offer and come and join us https://voicefest.org/programme-2
