One World By The Sea Festival

One World By The Sea Festival There will also be a number of fringe events associated with it, taking place in Westbourne, central Bournemouth and the Lansdowne area.

'One World By The Sea' Festival runs from Thurs 11th - Sat 13th October 2018 and celebrates the diversity & internationalism of education in Bournemouth & Poole Thursday 26th October - Saturday 28th October 2017

The International Education Forum (IEF) of Bournemouth and Poole is to host a ‘One World By The Sea’ Festival which will celebrate the diversity and internationalism of education in the a

rea and will showcase just how welcoming the two towns are to its foreign students and visitors. The inaugural 'One World By The Sea' Festival will run from Thursday 26th October to Saturday 28th October 2017 and will include a programme of international themed events at a range of locations across Bournemouth and Poole. What is the International Education Forum? The IEF is a professional association made up of the key accredited international educational institutions in the area, including many of the two towns’ accredited language schools, an independent boarding school, Bournemouth University, Bournemouth Arts University, White House Guardianships and Bournemouth and Poole College. The shared goal of its members is to promote Bournemouth and Poole as a world class centre for excellence in international education and to represent members on various external committees. This goal of gaining a world-wide reputation is being achieved despite Bournemouth’s comparable size when competing with better- known cities such as Manchester and Liverpool. Bournemouth is now known to be the second largest provider of International Education after London, with a value to the area’s economy that is estimated to be close to 300 million pounds per year.

Today is Juneteenth. A word blended from June and Nineteenth, today celebrates the official end of slavery in the USA.

President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation came on January 1, 1863 but it still took a further two and half years for Major General Granger to arrive in Texas to declare the war was over and the enslaved were now free. This was June 19, 1865.

155 years have passed since then and today we are aware more than ever that the battle for equality is far from over. It is all of our responsibilities to do what we can to promote diversity, fight inequality and work towards a better society.

Today millions of Australians will be celebrating Australia Day with BBQs, beaches, beer and a pavlova (even though that's from New Zealand!). We all hope this can be a special day, given the extraordinarily tough time that the country has been through in the last few months.

Whilst it's a day of festivities for many, the day celebrates when the first fleets of colonists arrived back in 1788. Obviously this occasion has also made a significant, and mostly negative, impact on the lives of Australia's aboriginal population.

Let's never forget how our actions may affect others and let's continue to work together to build a diverse, fair and balanced world.

Happy Winnie the Pooh Day 😃

Winnie the Pooh is a hugely loved book character, created by the writer AA Milne in 1926. Friendly, thoughtful and loyal, Pooh is much-loved across the globe and the stories have provided many quotes that have more than lasted the test of time.

Let's embrace our differences, celebrate diversity and enjoy our individuality.
