Vintage or Antique? What's the difference? π€
I often describe my spoon rings as being made from vintage cutlery, but what does that actually mean?
β¨ Vintage generally refers to items that are 20β99 years old.
β¨ Antique refers to items that are 100 years old or more.
So a spoon made in 1960 would be vintage, while a spoon made in 1925 would now be considered antique.
Most of the cutlery I transform into jewellery falls into the vintage category, although every now and then I come across an antique treasure.
Contemporary pieces occasionally find their way into my workshop too, especially when they have an interesting pattern that's crying out for a second life!
One thing worth knowing: older doesn't always mean more valuable. Design, rarity, craftsmanship and condition can all be just as important as age.
Whatever their age, I love giving forgotten cutlery a new purpose and a new story. β€οΈ
Would you rather wear a ring made from a vintage spoon or an antique one? π
