Goodbye, Batman.
Kevin Conroy was the voice of Batman for my entire life.
It's weird, in a way, that the voice of a man I never met had such an influence on the things I have grown to love.
He's chilling with Stan Lee now, in the colourful splash-pages of our memory.
Fu**in' love you, Mr. Conroy.
He was Vengeance, he was the Night. He was Batman.

Creative people! Hello! Just asking for opinions -
I am studying a BA in Creative Writing at AUB. Post-grad I'll be offering workshops/courses in creative writing (story-writing, screen/stage, poetry, etc.), for ages 16+. It's a little way off, but I want to get a sense of the kind of community engagement I might see with this kind of project.
Would a workshop/course like this appeal to you? If so, like this post!
Have you been a part of anything like this before, and if so, how did you find it?

Listen. Understand.

I've spent years working and learning alongside young people with Autism.

The reality of their lives, and the lives of their families, is something most of us don't understand.

There is a lot of love, fun, freedom and joy in the lives of the kids I've worked with, and other children with ASD across the world.

But there's a lot of pain, too. A lot of confusion, a lot of hurt.

We can't understand and empathise with every perspective, every experience. However, we can always listen. We can make little adjustments in the way we understand the struggles other people face.

We can give more space, more time, more respect.

I have learnt more valuable life lessons from children with autism than I have learned from all the "neurotypical" adults who preach their own versions of success.

I will always value the time I have spent, and continue to spend with these kids. They have made me a kinder man.

NEW BOOKS.

YAAAAAASSSSS.

Been wanting to read "Sapiens" for a while but lacked the intellectual motivation. Looking forward to getting a better understanding of this crazy species we belong to.

"Rare Birds" is a poetry collection created by one of my University lecturers, Natalie Scott, based on the experiences of female inmates at Holloway Prison. Not my normal kind of reading, but I'm interested to dive into it.

Those other two books? Well, I'm very excited about them. If you're a Tolkein fan, get these books. Some really beautiful artwork combined with deep lore.

So much of being a good writer comes from being a good reader. I have a tendency to read in my comfort zone, i.e. scifi, fantasy, etc. However, the world is made of broader stories than that! If the best thing I get out of being a writer is a better understanding of this wild universe, I'll be okay with that.

About to start reading a new book. I have a deep interest in the myths and legends of the worlds cultures. I grew up on the fantasy genre, which typically represents Medieval European society, however the world I grew up in is very different to the world we live in now.

I want to write fantasy stories that reflect OUR world, OUR struggles, OUR dreams. I want to express the most interesting and iconic aspects of the myths and stories that make up the history of our world. I can talk for days about western history, western myths, western ideals. I want to immerse myself in the dreams of other nations, so that when I write I can tap into those cultural heartbeats.

I want to explore the world, not just step by step, but thought by thought, dream by dream.

Feeling wanderlusty today.

I want new lands, new soil beneath my feet, new stars to light my way. I want to step out of society and into the world. I want to be reminded that the Earth is a place of huge, boundless wonders and tiny, flickering mysteries.

I want to see our world, as it really is, in the places where industry and progress have not made their mark.

“I want to see mountains again Gandalf, mountains, and then find somewhere I can rest. I might find somewhere where I can finish my book.”

MAPS. Your boy goes hard on world-building.

Drawing maps is a fun way of taking my thought process in a different direction. In planning epic, fantasy stories it's easy to become lost in your own worlds.

It's easy to lose your sense of scale. What is the real distance between Rohan and Gondor? Between Kings Landing and The Wall? How long does it take a wanderer to travel that distance?

Well, it might not bother the audience. But it bothers me. I need to know that when I write "he walked for half a day" that I can SHOW you how far, mile by mile, my character walked. What landscapes did he travel? In his ignorance, did he take the longer route?

It forces me to make my world more real. Where to put my Kingdom of Men? Backed against the mountains? Or pressed up against the sea?

And finally, who's world is this?

Me and my Dad agreed to a writing challenge about two months ago (maybe more). Our prompt was one line of dialogue to open the piece:

"This is the place where I was killed."

One month, a thousand words. Easy peasy.

Two and a bit months later and I'm on version three of this "easy peasy" challenge. (My delicate little ego is pleased to tell you that my Dad has faced similar issues.)

I tried writing something fancy and gothic. Thought it was s**t. Had some weird cosmic ideas but nothing solid.

Now I'm wondering, what happens when you pair a hashish smoking soothsayer and an overly-critical assassin?

Shenanigans, probably.

Here's the first little nip-slip tease. You can have the rest when I finish it in like thirteen years or something.
