Not to be missed!!!!
An extraordinary chance to see something special in St Mary the Virgin church in Felpham. The wonderful Jem Finer (The Pogues) on Hurdy Gurdy and the incredible John Matthias on violin will be playing a special concert on Saturday 15th August 7:00pm-9:30pm.
Jem Finer needs little introduction, multi-instrumentalist, one of the founder members of the Pogues and explorer of the sonic possibilities of the Hurdy Gurdy, Jem has been a treasure of the uk music scene for four decades.
John Matthias was the co-founder of the Exeter Comtemporary Music Group whilst at university studying theoretical physics. Moving to Bristol in 1998 he continued both his academic and musical career collaborating with Radiohead, Coldcut, Lunatic Calm and Matthew Herbert as well as composing music for film.
This collaboration encompasses inspiration from Arvo Pärt through Terry Riley to Can via Delius, Alice Coltrane and a subtle reimagining of electronic music played purely with acoustic instruments, bending and shaping their possibilities in surprising and unexpected directions.
This event forms part of a tour of South Coast churches and we are incredibly lucky that St Marys is part of that.
The concert is free but attendees must have registered for tickets using the link. Donations on the day are gratefully received.
Jem Finer (hurdy-gurdy) and John Matthias (violin) will be playing music from their forthcoming Touch release, Almost Starlight.
