โœจ Our next community project is already underway! โœจ

While our WOW! Fest participation programme came to a fantastic close with inspiring showcases throughout the festival weekend, our education team is already busy preparing for our next major project.

Led by our new Special Project Coordinator, Laura Hague, we're delivering workshops this summer as part of Under the Same Sky: Stories in Flight, a borough-wide participatory arts programme culminating in a public celebration in Solihull on Saturday 3 October.

Inspired by the symbolism of Afghan kites and Hong Kong lanterns, the project brings newly arrived and longer-established communities together through kite making, movement and storytelling, creating welcoming spaces where people can celebrate culture, creativity and a shared sense of belonging.

We're excited to be working with Elmwood Family Hub, Riverside Family Hub, iHere, Colebridge Enterprises, Sunflower House and many more community partners. Over the course of the summer, we expect to engage around 500 participants before everyone comes together for the final celebration this October.

If you'd like to find out more about our education and participation programme, or are interested in taking part in future projects, we'd love to hear from you.

๐ŸŒโœจ Today we celebrate International Youth Day 2026.
Young people may grow up in different places and face different challenges, but their aspirations are remarkably similar. They seek dignity, opportunity, meaningful participation, quality education, decent work and a sustainable future.

At Autin Dance Theatre, we're proud to support young people through creativity, movement and performance. As a charity, we offer a wide range of educational opportunities for professionals, young dancers and community participants.

Throughout the year, we work with hundreds of children, teenagers and young adults, delivering workshops in schools and community centres, as well as inviting young people to perform alongside our professional artists as part of our community casts.

If you'd like to get involved in one of our workshops or community projects, we'd love to hear from you.

โœจ Let's have a little throwback to WOW! Fest! โœจ

At the beginning of July, we had a fantastic weekend as WOW! Fest returned to Walsall Arboretum for its second edition! Across two incredible days, we welcomed more than 1,000 visitors to celebrate outdoor arts, dance and community in the heart of Walsall.

Audiences enjoyed an inspiring programme of performances, including our very own Out of the Deep Blue and Street Games, alongside BLOOM(s) by Levantes Dance Theatre , Who Do You Think I Am? by Nua Dance, Cloudscapes by Gobbledegook, BOOKS! by Tit for Tat Circus and the awe-inspiring skills of Sign Spinning UK.

Our Next Gen Stage was filled with energy from start to finish, opening with an uplifting Zumba session led by Zumba with H, followed by fantastic performances from St Giles' CE Primary School, Stowlawn Primary School, Grace Academy Darlaston, St Thomas CE Primary School, Leamore Primary School, Windsor High School & Sixth Form, Short Heath Junior School, Breakout Performing Arts, Kingley Performing Arts, Connection Dance and Making Waves โ€“ DanceFest. It was truly inspiring to see so many young people and older members of the community sharing their creativity, talent and passion on stage.

Visitors also had the opportunity to take part in our low-flying aerial workshops, giving people of all ages the chance to experience the thrill of aerial movement. Throughout the festival, artist Alice Tanasie created a beautiful live mural inspired by stories shared by the local community about Walsall Arboretum. Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the mural became a vibrant celebration of the park's memories, people and stories.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, performed, volunteered, partnered with us and helped make WOW! Fest 2026 such a special celebration. We can't wait to welcome you back to Walsall Arboretum next year! ๐Ÿ’™
