In the fourth and final short film in our Bad Le****ns series, the team talk about the perceived silence around violence in the q***r community, and what might happen when we are willing to examine it. About the shifting roles we play as witness, perpetrator and victim, and sitting in the ambiguity of that.

If you’re in Edinburgh for this month, you can catch our next work-in-progress showing of Bad Le****ns at on 29 + 30 August.

Tickets available at the link in bio.

[Video Transcript]:

It is trying, attempting to talk about what I perceive to be a silence in the le***an archive. Where there is this sort of messy, sticky thing around violence that happens from women, to women, to q***r people, to other trans people.

What happens when we are willing to examine the violences we do to each other in our community? And I’m specifically trying to think about that in a world that is already so violent.

There are moments when it’s unclear who is harming who, who is witnessing, who is seeding the next act of violence or harm or love or intimacy or care. And I think there’s something about sitting with and understanding the ambiguity, but also sitting with the moments of clarity.

and chat all things future, exiting and dogs (loads of dogs).

Exploring how Bad Le****ns might evolve in the future, in response to the spaces and contexts it’s presented in. Also contemplating the question of how we exit: both in an improvisational performance context, but also in relation to situations of interpersonal violence.

What happens if we’re in a gallery while other work is happening around us and we’re really excited by the idea of like different versions of the work presenting itself depending on the context that it’s in.

He’s calling this dog which is valid. There are loads of dogs in the show. There are loads of dogs in the show. So I also turned.

There is something about not wanting to leave the improvisation.

Yeah. Or like what are the reasons or what are the modes through which we can exit and that feels intimately connected to interpersonal violence.

Absolutely. The question of why don’t you leave? When can I leave? Should I leave? That question of exiting is also within an improvisation so the durational performance allows for that.

It allows for like how do we exit? Is there a station or a chair or is there like a room that we go to or yeah and these are all like things practically that we’ve been working with.

Being a Bad Le***an isn’t all violence and villainy - there’s a generous helping of humour, wit and love running through both the work itself, and the artistic team.

Here’s a little snippet of the Bad Le****ns demonstrating their signature ‘delightful disorder’ to send you into the weekend, courtesy of and (w/ guest appearance from Haddaway... KIDDING)

Oh and did we mention there’s synchro choreo, too?

What’s my name? You could, I don’t know, Samra.

Samra. Samra.

What is love? Samra’s been doing that for... Well,

I can’t tell you how long Samra’s done that for, and it...

I’ve done it on the Peaky Blinders set.

Diva down.

That’s very bad le***ans, I think. Hello.

Like, two women driving this huge... They are le***ans. Yeah, period.

Woah-woah-woah-woah

You’re gonna kill his ears

Oh-woah-woah, uh-huh

Not bad

Should I maybe just wait for the train?

The latest work from Selina Thompson Ltd, Bad Le****ns, is a delightfully disorderly villain cabaret exploring the complexities of q***rness, violence and the cracks that appear in domestic bliss.

We grabbed some time with Associate Director and Lead Artist and Collaborating Artist to delve a little deeper into the thinking behind the work, and to hear more about how the artistic team have brought together their individual lived experiences to create a Bad Le****ns methodology of working.

You can catch the next work-in-progress showing of Bad Le****ns on 29 + 30 August, presented at as part of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe .

Babs, we've got one hell of a birthday this year: Selina Thompson Ltd will turn 10 years old - and to celebrate, we've decided to throw a big ole' party!

There will be tickets available to book nearer the time once we've confirmed all the details, but for now, please stick what's set to be the hottest Brummie party of 2026 in your diaries for Friday 11th September 2026.

To make this party really pop, we are launching 10 x £1000 commissions for 10 x artists to help us celebrate! So if you're an artist - or you know one (or even two, or three, etc etc) - check out the artist commissions opportunities below...

---

1. Artist Brief: Birthday Party Entertainment
(Open to artists nationally in the UK)

We are hosting a party, and what does every great party need...? Some iconic performances! That's where you come in.

Task: To make a ‘party piece’ that responds to one of the following five works from the Selina Thompson archive:

- Chewing the Fat
- Dark and Lovely
- Race Cards
- Salt
- Pat It and Prick It and Mark It with ‘B’

When we say a party piece, we either mean:

- a short performance piece, no longer than 20 (?) minutes, that can be performed in a cabaret-esque set up. Can have a cabaret vibe, but doesn’t have to.

- an installation that people can leave the main party to ‘do’ or ‘experience’

- a durational performance or experience that lasts the length of the party

- Something else you come up with that impresses us so much that we make an allowance for you.

---

2. Artist Brief: Birthday Party Hosting
(Open to artists in the West Midlands only)

You know what else a party needs? Food! Booze! Bouncy Castles! Party Bags! And for that? We need you.

Task: To design and deliver one element of the birthday party as a bespoke art intervention. The themes are:

🍰 Cake
🍔 Catering
🪩 Decoration
🍸 Drinks
🛍️ Party Bags

When we say bespoke art intervention we mean:

- The themes are to be interpreted as live art /performance art / visual art commissions

- They respond to the theme of a 10 year old’s birthday party

- It needs to be functional. So by all means get creative but the drinks can’t be made out of kerosene or something, people still need to have a good time (and stay alive).

---

Please visit our website (https://selinathompsonltd.co.uk/work/10th-birthday-party-artist-commission-opportunities) to explore both of these briefs in full and for application details - but as a heads up, expressions of interest need to be in by Mon 1st June, 10am.

We are already excited to see what you come up with!
