Takafumi Noma, director and character designer of Unicorn Overlord and a former Vanillaware veteran who also worked on 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Dragon’s Crown Pro, and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, has unveiled a new original fantasy universe called IGNISPHERE. The first game set in that world is DAWNGAZER, an action RPG now in development at IGNISPHERE Studio under Noma’s leadership.
The project is a partnership between developer Monochrome Corporation, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary and previously worked on titles such as Grand Kingdom and SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered, and publisher Good Smile Company. DAWNGAZER is planned for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2028, with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese support.
IGNISPHERE is being built as a large original setting of many nations, races, and cultures rather than a backdrop for a single game. Noma has said he wants a more strongly fantasy-focused world that can support different stories and styles of play. DAWNGAZER is the first entry in that plan and marks a shift from Unicorn Overlord’s strategy combat toward action RPG gameplay. A teaser already shows a medieval fantasy look and early character art.
Music is being composed and arranged by Yoshimi Kudo, known for Unicorn Overlord and Elden Ring. The teaser features vocals by KOCHO, SAK., and Maki Takimoto, with cello by Wataru Mukai.
Beyond the game, IGNISPHERE is planned as a multimedia franchise. Good Smile Company will handle merchandising, including figures, and multiple light novels set in the same universe are in development through Kadokawa’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. Gameplay, story, and character details remain limited for now, with more expected as development continues.
