Midsummer Masti: The Story Continues
Love, Life and a Lot of Relatives

Following the sell-out success of last year’s Midsummer Masti, Sampad South Asian Arts & Heritage return to Midlands Arts Centre - MAC's Outdoor Theatre in an explosion of music, dance and celebration.

30 August, 6.30pm

This year’s theme, The Story Continues, takes audiences beyond the wedding day and into the next chapter of life. Through performances inspired by cultures from across South Asia, we’ll explore love, family, ambition, tradition and the many twists and turns that come after “I do”.

🔹Tara, directed by Ashutosh S. Shankar
A Dalit trans woman navigates love and identity after falling for an upper-caste man.

🔹 A Thing About Kashem, directed by Bijon Imtiaz
A married man’s unexpected bodily reaction plunges him into a midlife crisis, forcing him to confront his identity and desires.

🔹Warm Shadows, directed by Aakash Chhabra
A son returns from abroad only for his mother to reveal a secret she’s been hiding all his life.

🔹 Ruse, directed by Rhea Shukla
On a rainy afternoon, three teenage girls practise a dance that begins to evolve, balancing between innocence and newfound awareness.

🔹 Body of Our Own, directed by Rahemur Rahman, Lily Vetch
Filmed over the course of six years, this documentary shows the resilience and sisterhood of three Hijra women.

Book your tickets for Britain Through South Asian Eyes - tomorrow at BIFF! This series of short films is showcasing the best of British South Asian talent in the UK.

Join us for:

🔸 More Punk Than Punk: Directed by Azeem Rajulawalla, this short follow Aki Nawaz who wrestled with his place in the world as an artist, a Pakistani and a punk, channelling these frustrations into his most controversial album to date.

🔸 After Eight: The Story of Satpal Ram: Directed by Mos Hannan & Usayd Younis, learn the Birmingham story of Satpal Ram, with a landmark British miscarriage of justice and the global campaign that secured his release.

🔸 The Dhaba: Directed by Alia Syed, this short weaves together a series of interviews with members of the South Asian community in Glasgow.

🔸 Shop Dada - The Comershop That Built Us:
Directed by Darshan Gajjar, who retraces the journey of his grandfather, Pravin Mistry, who fled Uganda and rebuilt his life running corner shops in Britain.
