Again, thank you to all Saturday's inquisitive and open minded folk who attended our Retreat Day. Without your attendance we have nothing. The people make our passion for healthy lives real.

πŸ’› A little review:
We embraced Boundaries and Balance with Yoga with Rebecca leading 3 sessions all with different yet connected themes.
Balancing our lives happens on many levels. We started on the gross bodily physical plain and worked our way inwards. Questioning how we feel, what takes us off balance and discussed how to bring about some positive change.
Put your phone down and turn the news off, being unanimously agreed upon.

We also looked at food and how supermarkets and online shopping takes us away from our actual needs into aspirations and treats which serves no real positive purpose.

We then explored and reflected upon a single yoga sutra that outlines a simple but tricky to apply method for maintaining an emotional and psychological calm for the mind. This brought up some really great discussion.

The juicy philosophy and discussions were cushioned by accessible movement and breath practices. All aimed at inviting self reflection, sensory awareness and calm.

πŸ’™ Carola van Zijl Breathe Healing worked tirelessly to give free 20 minute treatments to all of the participants who wanted one.

πŸ’š And Iza Moon completed the day giving one of her songbath soundbaths. A delicious and uniquely creative hour long relaxation to settle everyone including me πŸ™‚

Huge thanks to all the participants on Saturday's Retreat.

We really are passionate about nutrition and good tasty food as part of our holistic approach to health . And we really are grateful for the feedback on the food we provided.

Yoga with Rebecca was the cook
YM Bakery in Caistor provided the best sourdough
The 70% cocoa chocolate was fair trade and organic, as were the biscuits
All of the herbal teas were provided so folk get the chance to try something different without buying a box full.

As promised here's the recipe for our lunch. I've always called it lentil yum. Ours was all organic, gluten free and vegan. It's open to individual interpretation and your own ingredient variations.

Key ingredients:
Red lentils (split)
Tin of tomatoes
Vegetable stock
Leeks
Mixed herbs
Black pepper
Olive oil
Dried Basil ESSENTIAL!

Optional extras:
Green or brown lentils
Tin of kidney beans
Celery
Carrots
Courgettes
Aubergine
Peppers
Spinach
Garlic
Bay leaf
Smoked paprika or chilli

Method:
Warm the oil, add bay leaf, add leeks and garlic, soften them for a few minutes, add mixed herbs

Then add lentils, stir them in and coat with the mix
Add tin of tomatoes, mush it all up and cook for a few mins
Add the stock, stir and bring to a boil then simmer with lid on for 15 to 25 mins

Add any veg part way through the simmering, depending on how long they take to cook.

When lentils are cooked add a generous amount of dried basil and black pepper.

It's ready about 10 mins later

EnjoyπŸ™πŸ»πŸ«Ά

We're really looking forward to our Balance and Boundaries reflective Retreat Day tomorrow.
All the logistics are done, the day will be full but gentle. Inviting participants to experience and reflect on aspects of their lives. Consider changes that will positively affect their life choices in a kindly and non judgemental way.

All that's left to do is a huge batch cook by Rebecca this afternoon for the nutritious organic lunch.

Here at Svastha Lincs CIC and with the help and expertise of Yoga with Rebecca we are always on the look out for inspiration for our service users.
And this week the brilliant episode about balance on What's Up Docs? was perfect. We explored balance and even tried a couple things given as advice on the programme.
And what I, as the teacher really liked was the way this conversation went just that bit deeper than strength, flexibility and balancing exercises.
Balance overall in lifestyle was looked at. So if we are simply rushing around paying no attention and not caring for ourselves, then we end up being disconnected from how we feel. Sight, ear health, neck, feet and ankles all make up the support system in balance so if we no longer are able to be aware of these things then we increase risk of falling.
Proprioception, our awareness of where our body is in space, relies very much on the inner ear. And if we never tune into that during quiet times we are missing a trick.
Furthermore foot and ankle health is critical, so anything from neuropathy to injuries and stiffness greatly impedes our confidence and balance.
Whether we like it or not, from the age of 30 our muscles start to lose strength. So falls prevention is a lifelong project, not just after the first fall in later years.

This week's session was great fun and just a little bit challenging. Come along and have a lovely herbal tea, chat a d then the mindful practice. We guarantee you'll feel better for it
