The Woodland Singers enjoyed a great tour over the May Bank Holiday weekend to Scarborough. We started the tour with a visit to Brodsworth Hall and Gardens near Doncaster. It was a beautiful day and gave us a great opportunity to wander around the wonderful gardens as well as having lunch and popping in to see the house. We arrived in Scarborough just after 4pm ready to start our stay. As you can imagine Scarborough was very busy since it was a very hot bank holiday weekend. We had time to walk around on Saturday morning before going along to the Maritime Heritage Centre for a talk to learn more about Scarborough’s history, the Herring Girls and the importance of the pattern on a sailors knitted jumper. We then got back on the bus to head to St Mary’s Church in Brandesburton village for a concert along with a local choir Hooked on Harmony. There were only 18 of us including our honorary Alto Nick, but we still managed to sing out to the rafters. We were made to feel very welcome by the locals and it was great to hear the concert raised a substantial amount for local churches. Sunday was a free day and in smaller groups we did a number of things including a trip to Filey, a ride on the Scarborough North bay railway and for the brave few a swim in the sea. We set off for home on Tuesday, stopping in Sheffield for a few hours on the way to visit the Winter Gardens and the Millennium Galleries. Overall it was a good tour, great to spend time getting to know each other better and have a chance to sing in a different place. Can’t wait for the next time.
