We are pleased to announce that the second Billinge Christmas Market will be taking place this year -2022- on Sunday December 4th at The Masons Arms pub, Billinge. More details to follow and we will be migrating over to a new page for the event which I will just title Billinge Christmas Market without a date on this time!

SPOTLIGHT ON….Artist Catherine Austin, who has generously donated some of her wonderful original artwork to our charity tombola and raffle. Catherine uses a variety of media including ink, watercolour and charcoal to capture the essence of animals, wildlife and nature through first and second hand observations. She was able to fully revisit her enthusiasm for art during last years’ lockdowns and has been captivated by the healing powers of art ever since; subsequently her work is sold nationally and internationally and we are truly lucky to have some of her work on offer for our wonderful charity tombola and raffle. Catherine had also beautifully gift wrapped all the items being donated, pictures below show the lovely work being donated. This lovely family run business has been serving the community for many years and are open dawn til dusk 365 days a year, there with all the essentials you need from groceries, gifts, and some great deals each week. Well it’s not long now til the first Billinge Community Christmas Market, this Sunday December 5th 12-4pm at The Masons Arms. We’re very excited for the event and looking forward to welcoming you all! All the information needed can be found on this page but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me on messenger. Our Spotlight On…series continues today, highlighting all the wonderful people who have kindly donated to our charity tombola and raffle. All money raised from this will be divided amongst 3 local charities - Willowbrook Hospice, the Mayors’ charity supporting sick children, and MIND St Helens. Following the Market on Sunday, I will be continuing to post on this page for our Spotlight on…feature, concentrating on all the local makers, producers, businesses and charities which are having stalls at the Market on Sunday, so it is hoped this page will evolve into a kind of local business directory for the Billinge area.

SPOTLIGHT ON…..Houghwood Golf. Situated in lush green countryside off Crank Road, Billinge, Houghwood is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a drink, snack or meal at any time of year. And you don’t need to be a golfer to enjoy this haven of tranquility! The views from Houghwood are simply stunning, overlooking the vast Lancashire plain. Houghwood have very kindly donated a £25 gift voucher to our charity raffle, so come along to the Market for your chance to win, and you could be enjoying some delicious food and drink in a beautiful venue very soon! 📣📣 Information for stallholders and visitors to this Sunday’s Christmas Market 📣📣 Stallholders can access the site anytime from 9 am onwards, the full address is: The Masons Arms, 99 Carr Mill Road, Billinge, WN5 7TY.
Please bring your own table and gazebo, if using, and be prepared for changeable weather. The Market will be officially opened at 12 noon by special guests including Mayor, Cllr Sue Murphy. Parr Brass Band will then begin our entertainment, followed by Celebration community choir singing Christmas carols. There will be live music in the pub from brilliant local bands Mail Train and Frodsham Brothers between 3.30-5.30 pm.
Visitors to the Market are strongly encouraged to walk or use public transport due to the limited nature of parking around the site of The Masons. Other than stallholders/entertainers, there is no parking at the pub. However, the owners of Billinge Furniture Company at Barrows Farm ( 3-4 minute walk from the pub) have kindly agreed to allow parking on their land for those with no option but to drive to the area. Please note this does not include the area immediately in front of the shop, or the land opposite which belongs to Billinge FC and in use for training by Wigan Athletic Ladies on a Sunday. The address for Barrows Farm is Carr Mill Road, Billinge, WN5 7TX.
Bus 352 runs hourly on a Sunday from St Helens to Wigan and goes through Billinge. It leaves St Helens at 35 mins past the hour and leaves Wigan at 30 mins past the hour. If you alight on Main Street ( by all the shops) it is a 10-15 minute walk down to The Masons. If anyone requires any further information or clarification on any aspect of the Market, please send me a message on here and I will get back to you. SPOTLIGHT ON...we continue to focus on all the wonderful indivduals, groups and organisations who are so kindly supporting the Market by donating to our charity raffle, as well as those who are giving their time to help out in general on the day. First up today, we have 14 year old Maddie Scruton, a talented local photographer who, accompanied by Mum Jo, is kindly going to document the first Billinge Christmas Market for us, so that we will all be able to look back on and remember the special day.
Maddie has recently taken photography as a GCSE subject, and loves to photograph wildlife, but she would also like to gain experience in street photography. She has also photographed the Wigan 10 K race this year, and in the future has a goal of becoming a medical photographer. We are very grateful that Maddie and her Mum will be with us at the first Billinge Christmas Market this year, and hopefully there will be lots of lovely scenes to be photographed on the day.

*1 WEEK TO GO*The first Billinge Community Christmas Market @ The Masons Arms! Please come along to support this event created by the community, for the community. Wonderful local handmade products, advice and information stalls, Father Christmas, Celebration community choir singing carols, charity raffle and tombola with fantastic prizes, childrens' face painter and Parr Brass Band will all combine to create a truly special atmosphere in a stunning location. There will be delicious food for both meat-eaters and plant-based alike, and tasty mulled drinks to warm the cockles. The festivities begin at 12 noon with the event being officially opened by our Mayor, Cllr Sue Murphy. The Market will also be documented by talented young Photographer Maddie Scruton, who will be taking pictures throughout the day. You can find out more about Maddie and her photography on our dedicated page, Billinge Christmas Market 2021, along with the other generous and talented individuals who are contributing to the event to help make it a success. Please walk or use public transport to reach the event if you can; some parking is available thanks to Billinge Furniture Company on their land at Barrows farm, a 3-4 minute walk from The Masons. We have fabulous live music from local bands Mail Train and Frodsham Brothers from 3.30 - 5.30 pm, so please come along and really enter into the Christmas spirit!
