We are delighted to share an outstanding piece of work from Maisie R in Year 7, who has gone above and beyond in her recent art homework. 🎨📚

Students were asked to design a pair of pyjamas using a repeat pattern but Maisie didn’t stop there. After creating her design, she went on to make the pyjamas herself, using a sewing machine to produce a matching top, bottoms and even a coordinating scrunchie. Her creativity, skill and commitment are truly impressive and far exceeded what was expected.

A huge well done to Maisie for her exceptional effort and craft ship. 🧵

In Art, students explored the beauty of henna‑style design but with a creative twist. Instead of using traditional henna paste, they experimented with drawing their patterns using coffee, allowing them to play with shapes, lines and cultural symbolism. 🎨☕

They also learned about the significance of henna in a range of traditions, including Hindu, Muslim and Moroccan Jewish cultures, where it is often associated with good luck, health and celebration, especially before weddings.

It was a thoughtful and imaginative activity that helped students connect artistic expression with cultural meaning.

Celebrating Our Young Artists 🎨🌿

Our Year 6 visitors brought incredible creativity and energy to the Art room during our transition workshop.

They explored a Jack in the Green–inspired project, layering hand‑drawn leaves to build a vibrant, expressive face. The focus, detail and imagination they showed were fantastic as each piece had its own personality and style.

It was wonderful to watch these young artists experiment, create and grow in confidence as they got a taste of what our Art department is all about.

We can’t wait to welcome them back and see what they create next. ✨

We are incredibly proud to share the fantastic achievements of our students in this year’s National Youth Monologue Competition. With over 4,000 entries submitted nationwide including many from prestigious private and specialist theatre schools. The standard was exceptionally high.

Despite this tough competition we are delighted to announce the following results -

🌟 Highly Commended:
Erin P (Y7) – "The Breakup"
Erin P (Y7) - "Little Miss Muffet"
Xander J (Y7) – "Hamlet"

🌟 Regional Shortlist:
Jess W (Y8) – "Sorry"

Jess’s monologue, which she wrote and performed at our Spring Soirée, narrowly missed out on the Regional Finals but has earned her an invitation to the National Finals, where there will be a presentation of the works from her category alongside performances from finalists across the country. 🎬🎭

Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough! 🦁🐘

To celebrate this incredible milestone, we wanted to showcase some beautiful artwork from Jess M a Year 11 student who created a painting in his honour.

A wonderful tribute from our young artist to a truly remarkable figure.

A Rhythm to Remember! 🥁

During Africa week we were honoured to welcome Mr Taiwo A for an incredible demonstration of Nigeria’s traditional Talking Drums.

Students were captivated by how the drum can mimic the tones of spoken language which was a truly fascinating and memorable cultural experience that brought learning to life. 🌍

Exploring Adinkra Art 🎨

During Africa week our students took part in a creative workshop where they discovered the beauty and meaning behind traditional Ghanaian Adinkra symbols.

These powerful designs represent values such as wisdom, unity and courage. After learning their significance, students created their own meaningful pieces inspired by the tradition.

A wonderful blend of culture, creativity and self‑expression. 🌍

Days like this don't come around often, and I want every pupil, parent and member of staff to know how much this moment means. We're joining a family of schools that shares our values, and the future for our young people just got a whole lot brighter. Here's to what comes next.
