For the Women Who Hold the World
By Matt Jarvis - The Amber Valley Poet

To the mothers
who rise before the sun,
carrying whole universes
in tired hands and open hearts—
thank you for your strength,
the kind that never asks to be seen
yet lights every room you enter.

To the sisters
who walk beside us,
steady as a heartbeat,
fierce as a promise—
thank you for your laughter,
your honesty,
your unshakeable presence.

To the aunts
who stitch wisdom into ordinary days,
who show us that love
can arrive in a hundred small gestures—
thank you for your guidance,
your stories,
your gentle, grounding grace.

To the daughters
who remind us of possibility,
who grow, stumble, rise,
and rise again—
thank you for your courage,
your curiosity,
your bright, unbroken hope.

To the grandmothers
who carry decades in their eyes
and tenderness in their palms—
thank you for the paths you paved,
the battles you fought quietly,
the love you gave freely.

To the granddaughters
who inherit the world
and dare to imagine it kinder—
thank you for your wonder,
your questions,
your fearless dreaming.

And to every woman,
in every role,
in every chapter of her life—
thank you for your steed,
your strength,
your softness,
your fire.

The world is richer
because you are in it.
The world is steadier
because you stand within it.
The world is brighter
because you choose, every day,
to be exactly who you are.

So it was ten days ago when I completed Dry January and Dry February 2026, raising money for ***depreventionawareness charity, The Jordan Legacy.

My target was £200 and I got so close!!! £175 which is awesome and thanks all who so generously donated.

There is a little bit of time left to reach that target so if anyone out there can get me over the line and maybe even further , that would be so amazing!! Link below

Thanks again and remember that together, we can save lives.

There is still far too much stigma around men talking about their emotions. It’s still considered by too many as a sign of weakness and it absolutely is not.

Here is my about the subject.

Forty Years of Unlearning
By Matt Jarvis - The Amber Valley Poet

Forty years ago,
a man had to be a fortress—
stone‑walled, iron‑spined,
taught to swallow storms
and call the silence strength.

Tears were trespassers.
Softness a secret sin.
A trembling voice meant failure,
and love—real, spoken love—
was something zipped away.

But time is a patient teacher.
And men, at last,
Do listen.

Now a man can be a river—
moving, feeling,
carrying truth in open hands.
Bravery, no longer needed,
by how tightly he can lock the door
on his own heart.

It lives instead
in the courage to open it.

To cry without apology.
To speak without armour.
To hold another’s pain
without fearing it will undo him.

A man can be strong
and still soft..
Masculine
and still be moved.
Honest enough to break,
compassionate enough to mend.

Forty years ago,
he was told to be unshakeable.
Today,
he learns that being human
is the greater victory.

Our Ambassador Will Vaulks will be hosting a free community workshop next month at Oxford United Official focused on highlighting and raising awareness around mental health and su***de prevention: https://f.mtr.cool/nawpftwall

Taking place at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday 17th March from 6pm, the ticketed event will see Will talking about his personal experiences - we'll be sharing more about these later this week on our social channels - the highs and lows of his career, and honest insights around resilience and mental health.

The Baton of Hope will also be offering attendees practical guidance during the mental health session, as well as access to online and in-person training to support ongoing education and awareness around mental health and su***de prevention.

You can book your free ticket on the following link: https://f.mtr.cool/nbruygzsmb

Where the Water Never Ends
By Matt Jarvis - The Amber Valley Poet

The water rushes over stone,
a silver breath that never pauses,
a voice older than the trees
that lean in to listen.

Above, the birds stitch songs
into the cold morning air,
each note a small lantern
hung between branches.

Beneath the surface, salmon rise
with the stubborn hope of return,
and frogs build their soft green kingdoms
in the quiet pools along the bank.

Everything here is making a life—
not loudly, not hurried,
just faithfully.

And the water carries it all:
the stories, the silt, the shimmer,
the promise that movement
doesn’t mean leaving.

It flows away into the distance,
yet somehow remains,
a constant pulse in the world’s wrist,
a reminder that endings
are only places where the river
changes its name.

Tilly
By Matt Jarvis - The Amber Valley Poet

Tilly, patchwork pup of wonder,
Heinz 57, stitched with thunder—
A wag, a wiggle, a soulful stare,
A queen of chaos, love, and flair.

She guards her elephant with pride,
Her crocodile stays by her side,
And if you whisper grated cheese,
She’ll melt to butter at your knees.

She’s Mum’s soft shadow, Dad’s best mate,
A heartbeat at the family gate,
A people‑lover through and through,
A furry spark in every room.

But show her dogs and heavens, no—
The gremlin in her starts to glow;
A tiny terror, full of bark,
A diva ruling half the park.

Yet Buddy the staffy broke the rule—
With him she’d run, go wild, play fool,
A whirlwind made of joy and speed,
Two spirits stitched from playful need.

And still, for all her quirks and noise,
She fills her home with simple joys—
A loving pooch, a cheeky sprite,
A little bugger… but pure delight.

Safe Enough to Speak
By Matt Jarvis - The Amber Valley Poet

Su***de prevention isn’t blame—
it’s light in a locked room,
a hand on the doorframe saying,
you don’t have to hide here alone.

It’s building spaces
wide enough for truth,
soft enough for fear,
strong enough for the words
you were never taught to say.

It’s choosing, together,
to make the world gentle enough
that people feel safe enough
to speak—
and stay.
