As we mark our 50th year, it is a great honour to dedicate our new Bannerette in proud and lasting memory of Alan Johnston.

Alan was murdered 38 years ago by cowardly republican scum while serving in the UDR, making the ultimate sacrifice in service to Queen and country. His memory remains deeply cherished within our band and the wider community.

We reaffirm our enduring respect and remembrance, by proudly carrying the UDR flag, ensuring Alanโ€™s legacy lives on for future generations.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Johnston family for entrusting us with this honour, and our heartfelt thanks to Reverend Bingham for conducting the dedication ceremony with dignity and reverence.

Thanks lastly to the all the members who turned out impeccably and to their families for supporting us tonight on this very special occasion.

After 16 years, we proudly carried our Bannerette for the final time this weekend. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary year, we look forward to the dedication of our new Bannerette on Tuesday evening.

On Friday night, we attended the Pride of the Hillโ€™s Parade, where the band was delighted to receive:

Last night we supported Lambeg Orange & Blue at their 40th anniversary parade, congratulations to the hosts on this milestone year.

Today members of Mourne Young Defenders were honoured to attend the Newry and Mourne Memorial Service in Kilkeel, joining with our community to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and all those affected by terrorism throughout the years.

As we gathered in remembrance, we reflected on the courage, service and dedication of those who stood in defence of our community and our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We also took time to remember Alan Johnston, who was murdered by the IRA, with Senior member RJ Cousins laying a wreath on behalf of the band. His loss remains a painful reminder of the devastating impact terrorism had on countless families across Northern Ireland.

It is important that the younger generation continues to remember the past, honour the memory of the victims, and ensure that their stories are never forgotten.
