🎭 GET TO KNOW THE TEAM 🎭

✨ What’s your name and role?

My name is Claire Ashe and I am the director of Dancing at Lughnasa.

✨ Tell us a little about yourself...

I am a mum to two adult children and work full time as a teacher.

✨ Why did you pick this show?

I was really drawn to how the  five sisters interact and find moments of light and joy when they are trapped by poverty, strict social codes and the weight of their responsibilities.

✨ What’s your favourite thing about the show?

It is hard to pick my favourite thing about the show as there are so many moments that resonate with me . All of the different dancing and the reasons behind it is thought provoking.

✨ Why should people come see the show?

Dancing at Lughnasa is an insightful play delivered by a talented cast. Definately not one to miss!

🎭 GET TO KNOW THE TEAM 🎭

✨ What’s your name and role?

My name is Mary McGowan and I play the youngest Mundy sister, Christina.

✨ Tell us a little about yourself...

In my spare time you’ll find me at the piano singing, binging Game of Thrones, or at the top of cavehill on a sunny day.

✨ Tell us about your character...

Despite being the youngest sister, Christina is a confident young woman who is sure of herself and her role in the Mundy household. Her son, Michael, instils joy in the sisters as they muse over his learning and art. Although her love interest Gerry Evan’s has proven himself time again as an unreliable and charlatan, she can’t help falling for his utter charm each time he returns to Ballybeg.

✨ What’s your favourite thing about the show?

My favourite thing about the show is how the narrative is revealed through both the 1930s action on stage and Michael’s insightful monologues. This constant switch between past and present makes the plight of the Mundy sisters all the more devastating.

✨ Why should people come see the show?

This show is a heartwarming classic that will make you laugh, cry, and serve as a reminder to appreciate joy in the small things!

🎭 GET TO KNOW THE TEAM 🎭

✨ What’s your name and role?

My name is Jim McDowell and I play Father Jack in this play.

✨ Tell us a little about yourself...

I am a fundraiser for Christian Aid as well as a part time magician and entertainer.

✨ Tell us about your character...

Father Jack is an interesting character, he has been working as a missionary in Uganda for the last 25 years and has recently been sent home and you will have to come and see the play to find out why, but let's just say he is not the same man who left the village all those years ago.

✨ What’s your favourite thing about the show?

Dancing in Lughnasa is a wonderfully dramatic story with fantastic characters and some surprises along the way.  It will make you laugh and cry.

✨ Why should people come see the show?

This show has been thoughtfully put together by our director Claire who has done a great job of bringing the Mundy family to life for what is a brilliant night of theatre!

🎭 GET TO KNOW THE TEAM 🎭

✨ What’s your name and role?

My name is Aoife Bennett and I play Agnes Mundy.

✨ Tell us a little about yourself...

I joined Belvoir when I was eight years old and was in the academy for ten years. After living and studying in Dublin for the past few years it has been so lovely to be back at Belvoir working on this fab show!

✨ Tell us about your character...

Agnes is the middle sister. She is reserved on the outside but her passion and frustration occasionally burst through. She cares deeply for her younger, vulnerable sister Rose and acts as her main support. Agnes feels trapped by her life in Ballybeg and longs to get away.

✨ What’s your favourite thing about the show?

My favourite parts of the show are the moments of joy, most famously the sister’s raucous dance in the kitchen. The Mundy’s are all trapped in their own way. Seeing them let loose and have fun together as sisters are the real bittersweet moments of the play.

✨ Why should people come see the show?

It’s a classic for a reason! The play has so much heart and the whole cast and crew have worked hard to bring this beautiful story to life!

🎭 GET TO KNOW THE TEAM 🎭

✨ What’s your name and role?

I’m Aidan Hughes and I’m playing Michael Evans.

✨ Tell us a little about yourself...

I’m from the beautiful North Coast, and I’ve been a proud member of the Belvoir Players for over ten years. I’m also part of Portrush Music Society, and am also currently rehearsing for our upcoming production of ‘Come From Away.’ When I’m not onstage, you’ll probably find me out exploring the world, travelling! And I can’t forget my partner in crime, my dog Lincoln.

✨ Tell us about your character...

I play Michael, the narrator of the piece, who looks back at a pivotal childhood summer growing up with his mother and her sisters. He carries all the emotions of nostalgia, love, and the bittersweet feeling of looking back at moments that shaped who he is.

✨ What’s your favourite thing about the show?

My favourite thing has to be the blend of joy, humour, and heartbreak. Friel’s writing is magical—it transports you to a different time and place, and you really feel the spirit and warmth of this family.

✨ Why should people come see the show?

‘Dancing at Lughnasa’ is an Irish classic that will make you laugh, cry, and remember the special moments in your own life. It’s a heartwarming, moving production performed by an incredibly talented cast and crew. Don’t miss this beautiful and unforgettable experience!
