MABON: THE SACRED BALANCE OF LIGHT & DARKNESS

As the Wheel of the Year turns, the Autumn Equinox marks a moment of perfect balance — when day and night stand as equals, before darkness gradually claims the longer hours.

Known as Mabon in modern Pagan and Wiccan traditions, this seasonal turning point celebrates the harvest, gratitude and the wisdom of letting go. It falls between Lughnasadh, the festival of the first harvest, and Samhain, the threshold into winter and the darker half of the year.

THE ANCIENT MYSTERY

Although there is no firm evidence that the ancient Celts celebrated the autumn equinox as a formal festival, ancient peoples across the world recognised the significance of the Sun’s journey. From the great Mayan temple of Chichén Itzá to prehistoric monuments aligned with the rising Sun, the equinox has long inspired wonder, ritual and reflection.

THE MYTHOLOGY OF MABON

In contemporary Pagan symbolism, Mabon is a time to honour the harvest — not only the fruits of the earth, but the experiences, lessons and achievements gathered throughout the year.

It is a season of transition: the Sun King begins his symbolic descent, the Goddess moves towards her Crone aspect, and the myth of Persephone’s return to the Underworld echoes the earth’s retreat into winter.

Mabon asks us a timeless question: What must we release to make room for renewal?

As the leaves fall and the natural world prepares for rest, we are reminded that endings are part of the sacred cycle. Balance cannot last forever, and neither can abundance — but both leave behind the seeds of transformation.

Honour the harvest. Embrace the darkness. Trust the turning of the Wheel.

LIBRA — THE ENERGY YOU FEEL, BUT CAN’T EXPLAIN

A Libra doesn’t just walk into a room… they read it. ✨

They notice the atmosphere, sense the unspoken tension, spot the beauty others overlook, and feel when something is just a little out of balance.

Ruled by Venus, Libra is drawn to beauty, art, harmony and meaningful connections. Charming without trying. Diplomatic without pretending. Warm without overwhelming.

A Libra has a way of making people feel seen, heard and understood — often without saying very much at all.

THE CELTIC STAG: GUARDIAN OF THE FOREST, SYMBOL OF REBIRTH & MYSTERY

As autumn descends and the nights grow longer, the ancient Celtic stag emerges from the mists of mythology — a powerful symbol of nature’s magic, transformation and the eternal cycle of life.
In Celtic tradition, the stag is closely associated with Cernunnos, the Horned God — the mysterious lord of wild places, animals and the natural world. Famously depicted on the ancient Gundestrup Cauldron, Cernunnos is shown with magnificent antlers, surrounded by creatures of the forest. He represents the sacred connection between humanity and the untamed forces of nature.

THE MAGIC OF THE ANTLERS

Like branches reaching towards the heavens, the stag’s antlers form a living crown — a symbol of vitality, sovereignty and the regenerative power of nature. Shed in autumn and reborn in spring, they embody one of the oldest mysteries of the natural world: that endings are never truly endings, but the beginning of transformation.

THE WHITE STAG & THE OTHERWORLD

In Celtic folklore, encountering a white stag could signal the beginning of an extraordinary journey into the Otherworld — a realm of faerie beings, hidden knowledge and supernatural encounters. Its appearance was often a call to leave the familiar behind and follow the path towards the unknown.

MABON, THE STAG & THE TURNING OF THE WHEEL

Mabon, The Autumn Equinox, marks the turning point between abundance and decline, light and darkness, harvest and renewal. It is a season of balance, reflection and letting go. The stag’s cycle of shedding and regrowth mirrors this ancient rhythm. As the natural world prepares for winter, its mighty crown becomes a reminder that transformation requires release — and that within every ending lies the promise of rebirth. The Celtic stag is more than a creature of the forest. It is a timeless emblem of wild wisdom, sacred masculinity, spiritual power and the mysterious threshold between this world and the next.

LIBRA — THE ART OF BALANCE
What does it really mean to be a Libra?

Represented by the Scales, Libra is perhaps the zodiac’s great observer. While some signs act first and think later, Libra tends to pause, weigh the possibilities, consider another perspective — and then decide. Or sometimes… keep considering. 😉

Because seeing both sides is one of Libra’s greatest strengths — and occasionally its greatest challenge.

A Libra can walk into a room and sense when something feels slightly out of place. They notice the atmosphere, the unspoken tension, the beauty in the details, and the subtle shifts in relationships. Ruled by Venus, Libra is naturally drawn toward beauty, harmony, art, connection and balance.

But harmony isn't always the same thing as avoiding conflict.
One of the deeper lessons of Libra is discovering that sometimes balance doesn't mean keeping everyone happy. Sometimes it means having the courage to make a choice, speak honestly, or accept that not everything can be perfectly resolved.
And socially? Libra has a particular kind of magic.

Warm without being overwhelming. Charming without trying too hard. Curious about people. Naturally diplomatic. There’s often something about Libra energy that makes others feel heard, appreciated and understood.

Perhaps that's the real symbolism of the Scales:
Not choosing one side over another — but understanding the weight of both.

♎ LIBRA — Beauty. Balance. Perspective.

The new Libra Celtic Zodiac T-Shirt from combines Libra symbolism with Celtic-inspired design — a graphic interpretation of the sign for those drawn to astrology, ancient symbolism and esoteric art. The Air and Venus symbols are presented as well as Libra's Motto "I Balance"

LIBRA — THE WISDOM OF THE SCALES

There is something quietly mysterious about Libra. Unlike every other sign of the zodiac, Libra is represented not by an animal, person or mythical creature, but by an object: the Scales. And perhaps that tells us something important about the Libra archetype.

The Scales represent more than simply “balance”. They speak of equilibrium, justice, proportion, harmony and the constant weighing of opposing forces — light and shadow, reason and emotion, independence and partnership.

Libra is a Cardinal Air sign, traditionally ruled by Venus — connecting it with beauty, creativity, attraction, relationships and the desire to create harmony.

But the deeper symbolism of Libra isn't necessarily about keeping everyone happy. It is about learning to recognise when something is out of balance. A true Libra archetype can see different sides of an argument. They may instinctively sense the dynamics between people, appreciate subtle differences in perspective, and search for the point where opposing forces can meet.

There is also a fascinating connection between Libra and the Autumn Equinox — the point in the year when day and night are brought into near-perfect equilibrium before the balance begins to shift towards longer nights. The Libra season judges the sun before being ‘bitten’ by Scorpio - who seals the fate or ‘death’ of the sun.

So perhaps Libra carries a deeper question:
What in your life needs rebalancing?

Where are you giving too much? Where are you holding back? Which relationships are reciprocal — and which are not? And where might beauty, peace and harmony actually require you to make a difficult decision? This is where the Libra archetype becomes more interesting than the familiar stereotype of the charming, indecisive peacemaker. The Scales are constantly moving.

Balance isn't a fixed destination. It's something we continually create, adjust and rediscover.

I've incorporated this symbolism into my own Libra Celtic Zodiac design, combining the Libra glyph, Air symbol and Ruling planet Venus and traditional Celtic knotwork to create a graphic interpretation of the sign — something for those who feel a connection with the symbolism behind their zodiac rather than simply their horoscope.

The cheeky lil 'Leprechaun' 🍀 - all points back to the Irish god 'Lugh'...or 'Lugus' in Gaulish...commonly known as 'Lugh of the long arm or hand'...Lugh was also called 'samilanach' in Ireland, skilled at many crafts including shoemaking - even in Sweden 'the god with the big hand' is known as 'the shoemaker'. With Roman christianity Lugh resorted to a fairy craftsman - the anglicized version of 'Lugh chromain' - the leprechaun, a fairy Cobbler! (excerpt from Peter Berresford Ellis' book 'The Druids')

🧚‍♂️ Leprechauns in Earlier Irish Tradition

The leprechaun is now one of the most recognisable figures associated with Ireland, but much of the familiar modern image came later.

Medieval Irish literature includes small supernatural beings known as lúchorpáin. They are sometimes connected with the later leprechaun tradition, although the relationship between the two is not completely clear.

By the 18th and 19th centuries, the leprechaun appears much more recognisably in Irish folklore as a solitary supernatural figure, often associated with shoemaking and hidden treasure.

Older stories usually place the treasure underground or in a secret hiding place. A person who caught a leprechaun might try to force him to reveal it, but taking your eyes off him even for a moment could mean losing both leprechaun and fortune.
The familiar rainbow and pot of gold became much more prominent in later popular culture.

And green was not always his colour. Earlier descriptions sometimes dressed leprechauns in red or other colours, long before the green-clad figure became internationally familiar.

More trickster than lucky mascot, the traditional leprechaun was clever, elusive and notoriously difficult to outwit.
