ALBUM OF THE WEEK # 3

Evaporator - Nathan Fake. (InFiné. 2026)

Fake is one of my favourite producers of techno so analogous that on occasion it feels like it has steel fur growing on its surface.

Early on he came out of James Holden’s Border Community collective, clearly influenced by Holden and The Field. No bad thing, but his work didnt really start standing out until his “Providence” joint from ten years ago.

Porridge thick and blatantly more aggressive than the slightly more whimsical pastoral flavours previously shown. Collabs with harsh noise ubermensch Prurient underlined this more uncompromising stance, but without losing his commitment to tuneful themes.

He does a record about every other year and they’re always a must buy for me so I was naturally very excited when news of this project emerged.

“Baltasound” might be my favourite techno track of the year. “Evaporator” is certainly my favourite new techno album of the year so far.

S/T - Sunn O))). (Sub Pop. 2026)

I’ve been sooooo excited to hear this and wow, it has not disappointed.
An album of departures and arrivals in many ways.
Their first joint solely as a duo and their first recording not on their Southern Lord imprint.

Pure dynamism, universe crushing heaviness and real ecstatic transformation.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK # 1

Distracted - Thundercat. (Brainfeeder. 2026)

Went to see his mind boggling show at The Beacon on Tuesday night and then the long awaited new album arrived on Friday.
Much more song based than previous records but no less brilliant because of it.
Still manages to rep that crazy thrash-micro-jazz mixed with yacht rock vibe that only he can get away with.
Loads of standout tracks but this collab with Willow has taken up residence in my head.
