The George Hurd Activity Centre is a lively, friendly and bustling daytime venue for the new town's older generation to meet and socialise in the very heart of Basildon. Originally established in 1969 by Councillor George Hurd, the centre has been established in a brand new purpose built complex since May 2008. With an Annual membership of over 700 we provide a whole range of activities, social events and day trips and are always looking for new ideas. We usually average 20 day trips a year, ranging from London shows to river cruises, shopping trips or visiting the Houses of Parliament, the choice is yours.If you need a haircut we have our own in house hairdressing salon, reflexology twice a month and a visit from the nail cutting service once a month.Community Transport can be provided by Basildon Community Transport Services.Come along and learn to Salsa or if that’s not for you we are bound to have something to interest you, from Bingo, Line Dancing, Arts & Crafts classes or even a game of snooker or bowls to name just a few of the many classes we run at the George Hurd. We have a whole array of daily events and activities or if you just wanted to pop in for a chat and a few laughs then you can enjoy the friendly atmosphere of our lounge or weather permitting enjoy the outside seating area.
