We are very fortunate to have Lorraine Homewood as our new MD starting from January 2022. Lorraine was born and educated in Northern Ireland, and has enjoyed choral singing since childhood, alongside tuition in the piano and violin. After school, Lorraine trained in Piano and Academic Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester graduating with honours, before starting her profession
al life as a music teacher and artist manager. She is an experienced piano teacher and accompanist and has worked at the Royal Opera and more recently Glyndebourne Opera. After a successful career in the finance sector, Lorraine relocated to a small-holding in North Devon in 2018, together with her husband, four dogs and a herd of alpacas, with the ambition to focus once more on her musical life. Lorraine now performs regularly in local recitals, teaching both piano and violin. She sings alto in the South Molton Singers, is the accompanist of Jubilate and the North Devon Choral Society and is delighted to add the exciting role of Music Director of the Barnstaple Ladies Choir. She was a founding member of the Choir but was made an Honarary Life Member for her long service leading us with her love and skill of singing. We will always be grateful for everything she has helped the Choir achieve. Our Accompanist is Jean Bell, she is the organist for St John's Church in Newport, Barnstaple, and we are thrilled that she is enjoying the experience of accompanying the choir
We are also pleased to have Sue Boyle, one of our Altos, as our Assistant Musical Director. The Choir enjoy exchange visits with many choirs from all over the country, including Northern Ireland, please contact us if your choir would be interested in joining with us. Of course we also sing regularly with our friends in the Barnstaple MVC. In the past the Choir has been honoured to be presented with the Town's Mayor's Cup for assistance to local organisations and also the Community Plate in recognition of our work. Barnstaple Ladies Choir enjoys performing at concerts, however large or small the audience. Singing at weddings is also something of a speciality and it is a privilege to be a small part of a very special occasion. If you would be interested in having the Choir entertain your group please message us
