The latest Via Beata Artwork Will be a magnificent bench going to a church in Herefordshire. Some of the team went over to a sawmill in Herefordshire to buy this magnificent clean piece of beautifully loved oak! We thought it was fitting that oak cut from the county went into making the artwork!
Now it is time to start marking up the design that will be carved into it.

For centuries, pilgrims have carried a passport as a sign that they are undertaking something out of the ordinary.

We’ve now created a Via Beata passport in that same spirit. It offers a simple way to mark each artwork you encounter along the route. Each passport is individually numbered and impressed as a unique record of your journey.

Passport holders are welcomed at no charge into the cathedrals along the way. Many of the places connected to the route offer accommodation at a reduced rate, or sometimes freely, to those travelling it if you show your passport.

The final image here shows Biddy Collyer, our Walking Director, with the first passport issued.

If you feel called to walk the Via Beata, you can find more here:

These are stone hearts carved by young people at a music festival in 2014. They are now part of the Via Beata art installation, located in a waystation shelter there. There is a verse in the Bible that talks about God taking away our stony hearts and giving us a new soft heart.

After literally years of planning... We now have our first batch of Via Beata Pilgrim Passports!

These will allow pilgrims to record each way-station they visit, get free access into the cathedrals on the route and get substantially discounted or free accommodation at various places along the pilgrimage.

Our wish was that anyone can access the hugely significant and rather quite challenging 450 mile walk of the Via Beata between St David's and Lowestoft. We hope these passports will accompany people on life changing adventures for many years to come!

They will be available to people undertaking the Via Beata in any form, from the website in the next few weeks.

In a church in Eardisley in Herefordshire, The Via Beata are getting ready to set up a plaque. It's not a full-blown way station yet!
This is the proposed design and we're going to carve it onto a big slab of sycamore. This particular bit of wood has a bit of story - It was bought over 20 years ago to craft the necks and heads of double basses and cellos! It has been sitting in a shed ever since - so what better use than to make it a part of an artwork made as an act of worship!

One of our recent walkers completed the whole of the English leg of the Via Beata (in one go!) and took many great pictures along the way. This one was my favourite. I feel like it shows the Via Beata is getting established as part of the fabric of the countryside....

If you’ve been to that part of , you’ll recognise the famous viaduct over the valley — it’s the frame for this artwork.
