I volunteered as a Welcome Ambassador last week and all the comments about how wonderful everything was are correct but… for me, one event was so meaningful, historic and emotional… I was on duty on Royal Avenue on Sunday. I’m of the generation who remember the security gates outside Boots where you were frisked and searched as matter of course on a shopping trip. So, as I stood in that exact spot I looked at the screen to watch the image and listen to the wonderful music of the Shankill Defenders on the big screen playing at the All Ireland Fleadh. How amazing was that. Truly a momentous moment that I will treasure. For me, it shows how far we have come and I am so grateful for that. Come to the Fleadh. All welcome.
