A reminder, our April screening is on this Thursday, with California Schemin' - doors 6.30pm at Spey Valley Cinema.

Directed by BAFTA Award winner and Golden Globe nominee James McAvoy, who takes a supporting role alongside Screen Daily Rising Star Scotland 2024 & Guildhall graduate Séamus McLean Ross, and BAFTA Award and BIFA Award nominee Samuel Bottomley.

Announcing an opportunity for our community in Aviemore! In collaboration with Opening Shot we are hosting a free filmmaking one-day workshop this month for beginners (16+) who are interested in getting into film!

Thurs 23rd April, 1-5.30pm at the Tiso Bothy, Aviemore.

Opening Shot: Community Engagement Workshops is a one-day workshop designed for complete beginners. The workshops are designed to introduce the creativity and collaborative spirit of filmmaking to underrepresented communities across Scotland.

Focusing on basic screen skills, including phone-filmmaking, short film challenges, or thematic storytelling sessions - our sessions are informal and are focused on enjoyment, collaboration, and creativity.

Why Apply? Learn filmmaking. Try out a new creative skill. Participate together in a fun & creative environment.

Workshops are designed for complete beginners, so no prior experience is required.

Hi community cinema friends!

We had a report that our latest screening, Perfect Days was not so perfect! And that the non-subtitled version of the film played, with only the original Japanese audio.

We are sorry for this! It was the first screening that none of our team were at on the night and the cinema was provided with the wrong version of the film which was not possible to know until the film was on.

If you were someone affected by this, please message us so we can sort out some tickets to the next screening!

Thank you to Charlie Miller, Ruth Walker, and Jane Weston, plus the Golden Spurtle team and Carrbridge community, and everyone who came out last Tuesday for our special local premiere of the documentary.

We had over 200 people at the event, and it was, as a porridge contest says in the film "as heart-warming as a bowl of porridge".

It's nights like these that give us such inspiration to keep the community cinema going. The Golden Spurtle team are a wonderfully energetic and kind bunch of volunteers who give it their all - as the film shows!
