Morris Dancing – Fun for All - Practices Start September 3rd near Ashford
Do you like dancing, socialising, music, having fun? Then why not try Morris Dancing? We are recruiting now for new members – dancers and musicians.
Why are more people dancing Morris in the twenty-first century than at any time in the past? Is it the sense of continuing a typically English tradition with origins going back at least 500 years, or the exercise, or experiencing places and events at home and abroad that you would never otherwise go to?
While there are probably as many reasons as there are people who dance it, the simple answer is because we enjoy it.
East Kent Morris has been dancing for over seventy years (with occasional breaks for refreshment!) and we are always delighted to have new members, both men and women. We dance Cotswold Morris dances with hankies, sticks and bells. Have a look at the videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLITfllSO9aV1Pgr3c1K7RLqlPiATsKnOj
From September to April we practise every Wednesday evening at 8pm in Mountbatten Hall, Mersham TN25 6NU (Ashford, M20 J10); afterwards we practise drinking in the local pubs! In the Summer we combine the two activities, dancing at a different pub every Wednesday evening.
Throughout the year we perform at countless different weekend events, including festivals and the occasional trip abroad.
Every Wednesday in September will be a session for beginners. Completely free and no experience required. Why not give it a try? Exercise your mind, your body and your smile! Details from [email protected] or 01233 625 362 or just turn up!
