A visit to the site at Hillside near Montrose where Robert Burns stopped on his Highland tour of 1787 to water his horse! A plaque commemorating the event was sculpted by Adam Christie, resident of the nearby Montrose Sunnyside Hospital (formerly asylum) in 1930. Research for our new play If Stone Could Speak by Matthew Knights based on Adam's life continues apace in September with a research trip to Adam's birthplace of Shetland! We will be popping up at in November with a work in progress reading and creative writing workshop. Watch this space for details!

✨We are excited to share that we have received a funding award from Creative Scotland to take forward the development of a brand-new play ‘If Stone Could Speak’ by Matthew Christopher Knights 🎭 🎻✨

This funding will allow us to explore the extraordinary life of Adam Christie. Born in Shetland, Adam created incredible stone sculptures and other art while at Sunnyside Asylum in Montrose in the first half of the 20th Century 🎨🖼️⚒️✏️

A fabulous trip to York this weekend to see the York Mystery Plays, from the creation to the end of the world in a mere 5.5 hours, the original plays would have been performed from sunrise to sunset and taken on wagons around the city. They are among the earliest formally developed plays in medieval Europe and were performed for 200 years but went unperformed from 1570 after the protestant reformation until they were first revived in 1951. Thankfully they are now brilliantly performed every 4 years here. A piece of living history

It was great to receive a copy of this book of articles commemorating the 100th anniversary of the published by Unite the union courtesy of Jamie-Max Cartoons who has provided some brilliant illustrations for it. Thanks to Jamie for the work he has done helping us promote our plays celebrating in Scotland including the story of who was a student in Edinburgh during the strike and supported the community she came from in the Fife coalfields Unite Scotland

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our work-in-progress reading of our new play Oh Dear Me by Matthew Christopher Knights based on the life of the wonderful .

Actors Beth Marshall and Ava Hickey along with director Kirstin McLean did an amazing job over the week in bringing this work to life. A special thanks must go to Sheena Wellington who has been so supportive from the outset and treated the audience to some of Mary's beautiful songs.

Thanks also to the staff at Verdant Works Museum for supporting our residency and Creative Scotland for funding the project.
