We have some lovely new artist who have joined us in the gallery! Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing their work. First up is Nikki Hurrell 🤗
Nikki is an artist based in Alnwick who draws heavily from her local environment and its vegetation. Her great interest in plants and their healing and medicinal properties led her to a previous career as a pharmacist.
Now, she’s interested in how humans interact with their environment and how nature affects wellbeing. These are the core threads found throughout her work.
Nikki is a mixed media artist who uses different mediums and often incorporates found materials from her local environment, such as pigments, to create a dialogue with her local environment.
Currently, her work responds to the dynamic landscape of the Northumbrian coast, in particular its wide dramatic skies and wild blustery days. She endeavours to capture this movement, energy, and ever-changing landscape in her work.
Alongside her artwork, Nikki is interested in textiles and is a member of ‘Alchemy’, a collective of women artists.
