The ‘Empress Wu’ hosta was named in honor of Wu Zetian (624–705 AD), the first and only female emperor in Chinese history. The cultivar’s name reflects its status as arguably the largest hosta variety in the world, matching the regal and powerful stature of the historical empress.

I originally started painting some piano keys on this panel as a nod to Joanna’s in Crystal Palace (RIP). Turns out I’m terrible with straight lines. I decided to make use of the panel by doing a quick oil sketch of squash flowers, painted during nap time in 2025.

Big news! 🎨🌿 I am so excited to announce that I’ll be live painting at the stand during this year’s Chelsea Flower Show!

I’ll be capturing the incredible textures and shades of the ‘Red Ninja’ hosta in real time so she’d better strike a pose. But there’s an even deeper purpose behind the paint - we are raising vital funds for .

Thrive is an incredible organization that uses Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) to change lives. They harness the power of gardening to help people living with disabilities or poor mental health improve their physical and psychological wellbeing. It’s all about the healing power of nature, something I’ll be trying to channel into every brushstroke. ✨

Come and say hi, watch the piece come to life, and help us support this amazing cause!

‘Time for Tea’ - inspired by the gardeners at who have worked tirelessly on the restoration of the Golden Rose Avenue. I wanted to depict the gardeners wheelbarrow full of weeds, as if they had down tools in search for a cupper 🫖🪴
