Showtime Singers - Aberystwyth

Showtime Singers - Aberystwyth The Showtime Singers are one of Aberystwyth's oldest amateur dramatics societies. We try to alternate between Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and other musicals.

As a 'town and gown' society we welcome both student and non-student members, ensuring a wide spread of ages and of dramatic experience. Details of our past shows can be found on this site. Over the past fifteen years we have performed shows such as The Boyfriend, Calamity Jane and Kiss me Kate as well as light operas such as Ruddigore. We also perform concerts during the summer to raise funds for the society.

A message from Richard Gethin, Joan Gethin's son, this morning: "Mum's funeral is set for 10th September 2pm Llangorwen Church. There will be proper announcement in due course." If at all possible the family would like some singing before / after, so please tell me if you feel this is something you could do, & we'll see what we can manage. Jo x

The very saddest news to share with you all, as her son asked me to earlier today - last night our beloved friend Joan Gethin died in her sleep, completely unexpectedly - Jenny Fothergill & I had been with her in Clarach finishing the costume store sort on Sunday afternoon, when she was totally herself, laughing at some of the terrible things we were finding, practical as ever, & full of energy, & she saw several of her family during the rest of the day with nothing unusual showing at all. She has been the absolute backbone of Showtime ever since she joined in 1993, immensely hard working, endlessly cheerful, wise & kind. I can't express how much we all owe her, & how deeply she will be missed. Sincerest sympathies to all her family on the loss of their mother, wife, grandmother & great grandmother, & to all her many, many friends: we were so lucky to know her. Richard will be in touch when plans are made for saying goodbye, but in the circumstances that may be a while.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to work on the costume store yesterday: we got an amazing amount done, a real achievement in one day. And now we can actually see the costumes we're keeping!! 😃 Consolidated from 3 different places, & only decent period costumes kept: the good-but-tiny have been passed on to the Youth Theatre & Dance School, the vast amount of 70s-80s dresses not suitable for conversion to anything useful gone to charity / being e-bayed if they're better ones, the stuff the rodents nibbled in our last but one store recycled as rag. And we reunited some people with their own clothes that had ended up in store & they hadn't seen in years 😃

A reminder that we'll be doing our Grand Costume Clear Out at the Clarach Store on Sun.4th from 10.30am onwards - all hands on deck would be appreciated!! ALL Pirates costumes should already have been left with me (Jo) at Cerdd Ystwyth Music, but if you haven't already done so, Tuesday 30th is the last chance to do so. Thanks, & hope to see a lot of you there, weather permitting - we will postpone if it's too wet since we'll need to bring rails outside to sort.

From the meeting last night, we've made plans to sort out our costume collection properly - so, if anyone has any costume items in their keeping (the ones from Pirates. e.g) please would you bring them to my shop (Cerdd Ystwyth Music), either before June 4th or in the period June 24th-August 2nd. I'm open 10-4 Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri, & usually also on Saturdays, but sometimes I have to close earlier at 3 on Sats. We plan to have a Big Sorting Day out at the Clarach Store on Sunday Aug 4th (weather permitting!) & make it into a Jolly Social Day (weather permitting!!!!) with cake. etc, all helpers very welcome.....and if you think any of your own items may be there, please do let us know :)

Very sad news from his brother Christopher: "I'm very sorry to inform you that my brother Aidan Jones, of Tregaron, who was a member of the Showtime Singers chorus, died on Tuesday 5th April 2022, aged 71 years. He had been ill since mid-December. His funeral service is due to be held at St Caron's Church, Tregaron, at 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday 27th April". Deepest sympathies to all his family & friends.
