South Wales Police are currently monitoring a protest taking place this evening in the Penywaun area of Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taff.

The demonstration follows the arrest of a 38-year-old local man earlier today.

Authorities confirmed that the individual from Aberdare was taken into custody regarding an allegation of a non-recent offence. He remains in police custody at this time.

To ensure public safety and maintain community order, officers have established a visible policing presence in Penywaun to protect those involved in the gathering.

The family of teenage cyclist Finlay Tarling have confirmed the funeral arrangements for the 19-year-old, sharing a deeply touching request for everyone wishing to honour his memory.

A service to remember the rising Welsh sports star, who tragically lost his life while competing in the Volta a Portugal, will take place at Aberystwyth Crematorium on September 17 at 12.30pm.

In an emotional statement released through Beicio Cymru, Finlay's family asked mourners to forgo traditional funeral attire in favour of a true celebration of his vibrant spirit.

Attendees are warmly encouraged to wear whatever they feel comfortable in, with bright colours, sporting tops, cycling jerseys, tracksuits, and sporting hoodies all very welcome.

The service will be followed by refreshments and a celebration of Finlay's life at Ty Glyn, Ciliau Aeron, Lampeter.

For friends, supporters, and members of the wider cycling community unable to make the journey, the family confirmed the service will be streamed live, with link details to be shared nearer the time.

Finlay died following a collision with a van during the eighth stage of the race in Portugal after the vehicle was mistakenly waved onto the course by bystanders who believed all riders had passed.

While an investigation remains ongoing, police have indicated the driver is not expected to face criminal charges.

The heartbreaking loss has deeply moved the sporting world, with tributes paid to the Welsh youngster ahead of the Tour of Britain.

Finlay's older brother Josh showed remarkable courage by starting the Vuelta a Espana in his brother's memory, before making the brave decision to withdraw during stage six to be with his loved ones.

His team, Netcompany-Ineos, expressed immense pride in him, reminding everyone that family always comes first.

Tragic Heartbreak: 35-Year-Old Mother Dies From Heatstroke On Snowdon Leaving Behind Her 12-Year-Old Son 💔🏔️😢

Such devastating news to share today. Sophie Goodyer-Bird, has tragically lost her life to heatstroke while descending Wales' highest mountain, Yr Wyddfa, commonly known as Snowdon.

What makes this even more heartbreaking is that the climb took place on the 10th of July, just days after she celebrated her birthday.

An inquest opening at Caernarfon Coroners' Court heard that Sophie became increasingly exhausted as she neared the end of her walk down the mountain.

She suddenly became unresponsive, and despite emergency services rushing to the scene and attempting CPR, they were unfortunately unable to revive her.

The coroner has given a provisional cause of death as exertional heatstroke, with a full hearing to follow at a later date.

Sophie tragically leaves behind her 12-year-old son who has now lost his mum.

An online fundraiser has been set up to help support the young boy through this unimaginably difficult time.

Our thoughts are entirely with her little boy, family, and friends. Please remember to take extra care and stay safe when walking in warm weather.

Major Wildfire Crisis Finally Over As Hero Firefighters Save The Valleys 🚒 🌈 👏

The major incident declared in response to the significant wildfires across South Wales has officially been stood down.

Following a deeply challenging period on the mountains, emergency teams have successfully brought the situation under control.

A massive thank you goes out to the co-ordinated efforts of our firefighters, partners, volunteers, landowners, farmers, and local communities.

Everyone worked incredibly hard and pulled together during this crisis. The bravery shown on the front lines has left us all in complete awe.

It is especially devastating to know that a lot of these mountain fires were deliberately set, making the sacrifices and tireless dedication of the crews even more remarkable.

We thank them endlessly for working so hard to protect the area.

The uplifting photograph of four resilient firefighters standing together on the scorched earth under a brilliant rainbow perfectly captures the enduring spirit and hope of our region.

While the major incident has ended, the fire service asks everyone to stay vigilant because the risks remain. Please continue to look out for each other and strictly follow wildfire prevention advice.

We have all been tempted by a bargain on social media, but one South Wales grandmother has been left out of pocket after buying a set of £14.99 dentures that she claims look worse than penny sweets.

Karen Soper, a 58-year-old retired carer from Neath, lost her natural teeth to gum disease two decades ago.

Struggling with her confidence and unable to afford expensive professional treatment, she thought her luck had changed when she spotted an advert for simple at-home mouldable dentures.

The convincing video promised to help people smile confidently again, showing customers happily crunching into apples and corn on the cob.

However, when the mother-of-three opened her parcel, she was absolutely horrified. Instead of a life-changing smile, she received a set of cheap, solid plastic teeth that instantly fell out of her mouth.

The page she bought them from turned out to have just 18 followers.

Speaking about the ordeal, Karen said she could not even fit the solid plastic in her mouth and joked that Haribo teeth sweets actually looked much nicer.

Believing the items look like they cost just 20p to make, the grandmother-of-four is now sharing her frustrating story to warn others not to get stung by the same online shopping trap.

Blackwood Firefighter To Lead 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb In Atlanta 🚒🇺🇸

A Blackwood man who works as a firefighter in Newport is heading across the Atlantic this week to take on an emotional 110-storey climb in full firefighting kit, paying tribute to the emergency service heroes who lost their lives on September 11.

Lloyd Williams, a firefighter with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, is travelling to Atlanta, Georgia, to take part in the Terry Farrell Patriot Day Memorial Stair Climb at Truist Park on Saturday 5 September. The event marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Climbing more than 2,000 steps in heavy structural kit, each participant will carry the photograph and name of one of the 343 FDNY firefighters who never returned home that day.

Lloyd is joining a dedicated contingent of 236 firefighters representing 48 fire and rescue services from across the UK.

In a historic first and major honour, the American organisers have invited the British contingent to lead the climb and carry a piece of ceremonial steel from the World Trade Centre during the opening ceremony.

Self-funding the journey in his own time, Lloyd is also using the powerful challenge to raise money for emergency service causes, with the team supporting The Fire Fighters Charity, The Blue Light Card Foundation, and The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund.

For the Newport-based firefighter, making the journey is entirely about remembrance, standing shoulder to shoulder with international colleagues to honour the fallen on a milestone anniversary.

A cat rescue in Porth is facing intense public scrutiny after a kitten, allegedly unavailable for adoption due to medical reasons, was discovered for sale on a popular pet classifieds website for hundreds of pounds.

The controversy was brought to light by prospective adopter Lucy Thomas, who visited AlleyCatsRescue a few weeks ago and expressed strong interest in a kitten named Alf.

Despite leaving her details and being told she was one of the first enquirers, Thomas was left waiting. The situation escalated when another interested party was recently informed that Alf was no longer available.

The rescue claimed the kitten was receiving veterinary care for a stomach infection contracted from his mother.

However, the story took a highly concerning turn when Thomas browsed Pets4Homes and spotted an advert listing Alf and his sister for sale.

The advert priced the kittens at four hundred pounds each, totalling eight hundred pounds for the pair.

Photographic evidence shared online reveals that the exact same picture of a kitten sleeping on a person's lap was used in both the rescue's official social media updates and the private sales advert.

Further discrepancies have deepened the community's alarm. The Pets4Homes listing, posted by an account named Bojangles Bengals in Treorchy, markets the ten-week-old felines as Norwegian Forest and Siberian crosses.

The advert claims the kittens were bred from the advertiser's own personal cats. This directly contradicts information previously given to rescue visitors, who were told the mother was a brown stray currently residing at the centre and the father was entirely unknown.

Potential adopters are now demanding transparency and honest answers regarding the true health, parentage, and history of the animals in the rescue's care.

Local animal lovers are urging the rescue owner to provide a genuine explanation for why a sick, rescued stray kitten was seemingly rebranded and listed for private sale.
