Yesterday I had one of the most releasing experiences of Chinese cupping . If you have never tried it before it's a must !!
Physical / Healing Meaning
Cupping is an ancient therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Middle Eastern medicine, and Indigenous healing.
• A cup is placed on the skin and suction is created (with fire or pumps).
• This suction pulls blood and energy (qi) to the surface, increasing circulation.
• It helps clear stagnation - things stuck in the muscles, fascia, and lymph.
• Benefits include: pain relief, muscle relaxation, detox support, better blood flow, reduced inflammation, and improved healing.
Back Areas & Their Meanings
Upper Back (shoulders, upper spine, between shoulder blades)
• Physical: Neck and shoulder tension, lung issues, shallow breathing, stress load.
• Emotional/Energetic: Carrying burdens,
"the weight of the world," grief, sadness, or suppressed emotions.
• Organs connected (TCM): Lungs & Heart.
& Darker marks here often mean stress + emotional weight being carried too heavily.
Mid Back (between shoulder blades down to ribcage area)
• Physical: Digestive strain, liver imbalance, stomach or gallbladder stress.
• Emotional/Energetic: Anger, frustration, resentment, or "stuck" emotions you haven't released.
• Organs connected: Liver, Stomach, Gallbladder.
* Dark marks here can mean unprocessed emotions or sluggish digestion/liver detox.
Lower Back (kidney area, sacrum, hips)
• Physical: Kidney/adrenal stress, low back pain, reproductive system imbalance, fatigue.
• Emotional/Energetic: Fear, insecurity, survival stress (money, home, safety).
• Organs connected: Kidneys, Bladder, Reproductive organs.
* Darker marks here can point to exhaustion, burnout, or deeper fears the body is carrying.
Sides of the Back / Ribs
• Physical: Liver + gallbladder stagnation, shallow breathing.
• Emotional/Energetic: Frustration, irritability,
"feeling trapped.
So if your marks are darker in certain areas than others, it means those parts of your body were holding more stagnation, tension, or unresolved energy.
