In today’s series, I wish to highlight the tremendous successes that the Miss Tregui Beauty Pageant has chalked over the past few years.
Miss Tregui is an annual event organized during the Easter celebrations in Tregui, aimed at showcasing the rich culture, tradition, and history of the community. Tregui, affectionately nicknamed “Tre go go na xor atsua” literally meaning “Proactiveness yields positive results” is located in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region.
The community is blessed with abundant natural resources, and the main occupations of the people include fishing, weaving, and farming.
The people of Tregui are known for their love, care, unity, and commitment to development. As such, every year, citizens from far and near converge to celebrate Easter while contributing meaningfully to the growth of the community.
Historically, the maiden Miss Tregui, Mama , was crowned in 2016 after a keenly contested event. Following her victory, she established a foundation through which she undertook impactful projects, including painting all classroom blocks of the Tregui E.P. Basic School, among other notable initiatives.
She was succeeded by Mama Klenam Vanzy Fumey Shine, who emerged as the second Miss Tregui in 2018. In her reign, she spearheaded the construction of an ultramodern bus stop for the community, alongside other developmental projects.
Next came the third Miss Tregui, Mama Nunana Matilda Denu Nunana Mat Dee , one of the illustrious daughters of the land. After winning the crown in 2019, she undertook the extension of pipe borne water to the basic school, significantly improving access to clean water, in addition to other commendable works.
The pageantry hit a rock from 2020 to 2023 because of the global coronal virus pandemic. However in 2024, the current queen, Mama , whose tenure comes to an end next month was crowned the fourth miss Tregui. She is currently undertaking a project to supply the community with a large quantity of plastic chairs and canopies to support social gatherings and events. I take this opportunity to appeal to the general public, especially the good people of Tregui, to support her with their widow’s mite to ensure the successful completion of this project.
As anticipation builds, the question remains: who becomes the next Miss Tregui? The stakes are high, and it promises to be a fiercely competitive and exciting contest.
I warmly invite everyone to come home this Easter and witness this remarkable annual celebration of beauty, culture, and development.
Special acknowledgment goes to the 1999 year group of Tregui Basic School for their generous contribution of a sound system and a modern stage platform, which continue to serve the event every year.
Indeed, the best comes from Tregui.
