Julia Daye is a poet and writer based in Brooklyn, New York. She is the author of the poetry collection, The Edge of Waking, and has been featured by Philadelphia Contemporary, SOMOS, the Taos Arts Council, Poets for Peace, Open Book NYC, and the PASEO Project. Her poetry has appeared in numerous publications and journals, including HOWL, Logos, and the Paris Lit Up Gazette. Her articles and essays have been published in Popular Science, the HuffPost, the Miami Herald, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many others.

Julia Daye is an award-winning writer, journalist, poet, and broadcaster whose work has appeared in Popular Science, the Miami Herald, HuffPost, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many others. An alumna of the New York State Writers’ Institute and Columbia Journalism School’s M.A. program in health and science reporting, she is also the author of the poetry collection The Edge of Waking (A Freedom Books, 2017).

Her poetry has appeared in HOWL, Logos, Moxie, The Paris Lit Up Gazette, and A Fistful of Words, and she has been featured by Philadelphia Contemporary, SOMOS, the Taos Arts Council, and the PASEO Project. From 2014–2021, she hosted and produced KNCE Radio’s What Are These Things, earning two New Mexico Broadcasters Association Excellence in Broadcasting Awards in 2021.

PLU SUNDAY WRITING SESSIONS

Looking for dedicated time and space to sit down and write?

Join us every Sunday morning for two hours of focused writing alongside other writers. Put your phone away, open your notebook, and work on whatever you want to write.

Bring whatever you’re working on—fiction, poetry, nonfiction, a journal, a first draft, or simply an idea you’ve been meaning to start. There are no exercises or assignments.

At the end of the session, anyone who wants to can share something they’ve written with the group.

All genres and levels of experience are welcome.

PLU CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS

Spend your Saturday afternoon writing, experimenting, sharing your work, and meeting other writers in Paris.

The Right Bank Writers’ Group meets every Saturday, with a different workshop format throughout the month.

The first Saturday of the month is dedicated to writing exercises and prompts—a chance to experiment, generate new ideas, and get words on the page.

The Saturdays in between are feedback workshops. Bring at least 10 printed copies of a piece you’re working on to read and discuss with the group, and come ready to give and receive constructive feedback.

On the last Saturday of the month, we turn to French-to-English literary translation, working together to explore the different possibilities involved in bringing a text from one language into another.

All genres and levels of experience are welcome.

After four days of performances, workshops, writing, books, and the launch of PLU on Paper, IGNITE! Festival has come to an end—and we’re back to our regularly scheduled chaos every Thursday night at Culture Rapide.

Poets, writers, musicians, comedians, storytellers, performers, and audiences come together each week at one of Paris’s longest-running open mics.

Come perform something of your own, try something new in front of an audience, or simply grab a drink and enjoy the show.

Poetry, prose, music, comedy, spoken word, and performances of all kinds are welcome—and so are all languages!

We also often invite a featured performer to take the stage for a longer set.

Paris Lit Up is calling for submissions. We are looking for original poetry, fiction, non-fiction and art for the 14th edition of our annual print magazine.

This year, our theme is ‘song’.

We want you to play with its meaning, stretch it, twist it. Improvise. Jam.

Song can be so many things. Chorus, canticle or chant. Hymn, ode or dirge. Psalm, shanty, ballad or anthem. Song can be simple as jingle, pretty as melody, obsessive as earworm. Song can be wordless. Song can be non-human.

Look for and find song everywhere: the chatter in the metro, waves on a pebble shore, the hum of traffic in the street, footfall in the hallway. You’ll know a song when you hear it.

A song is an act of communion, with others and with the world around you. It can confess love, herald death, reach for the divine. Song can lead to the dance floor and song can lead astray. It is the stuff of protest and praise, memory and mourning, love and longing, and everything in between.

With this theme, consider how to translate song onto the page, how to capture the wordless in ink, how to render the voice in writing. Make your words sing.

We are open for submissions in Fiction (short stories and flash fiction), Non-fiction (memoir, literary non-fiction, essay, creative non-fiction), Poetry, Art and Poetry in Translation (from French to English).
