This is what August looks like at the château.

Slow mornings. Golden light. Flowers on the table and brushes down by evening. Whatever you paint, oil, watercolour, acrylic, gouache, this is where you come to paint it differently, alongside an artist you admire.

Our 2027 season is open, five world class artists, most dates already filling. Come join us. Link in bio.

One month until Clare Bowen arrives.

We’re preparing the chateau, room by room. Her guests arrive with nothing but themselves, every brush and colour already waiting for them.

She’ll take them out into the Charente’s sunflower fields, in full bloom by July, gold as far as the easel can see.

Sold out for July.
2027 season open for registration.

This little one didn’t make it out of the pool on his own this morning. We got to him in time. A warm towel, a quiet spot in the garden, and one very cautious strawberry later, he was back on his feet.

He has a house under the hedge. He’s been there all season. We had no idea he was using the pool as a shortcut.

A ramp goes in tomorrow.

If you have a pool, please add an escape route. A piece of wood on an angle is all it takes. Hedgehogs are strong swimmers but they can’t climb smooth walls, and they tire fast.

He’s fine. We’re fine. The strawberry didn’t last long.

If you paint landscapes, stop scrolling.

Julia Hawkins ROI is on her way to Chateau Charente. Painters are travelling from across the world for a week of immersive painting in southwest France. One-to-one guidance. The best light. The best food.

On the road, Julia stopped at a poppy field near the chateau. She set up her easel and painted what she saw. Cadmium red and vermillion at full intensity. Coral and orange where the light broke through. Deep crimson in the shadows. The French landscape does not wait.

Our guests arrive on Monday. We cannot wait to welcome them.

2027 retreats are open. Link in bio.

These are the words that stay with us long after guests have gone home.

A painter from Hong Kong found the space to rest, learn, and connect. A guest from the United States discovered what it means to be welcomed into a home, not a hotel. A traveller from Luxembourg said it simply: dreamy, amazing, fantastic.

Art that challenges you. Food that gathers you. Wellness that slows you down. Connection that surprises you.

They came as strangers. They left as friends.

This is what a week at Chateau Charente looks like.

The first retreat of 2026 is coming to a close. And what a week it has been.

Painters arrived from across the world. Easels went up on a bridge over the Charente River. Mornings opened with stillness. Lunches were set beside the water. Evenings found us connecting and laughing around the table.

This is what a week at Chateau Charente looks like. Swipe to follow the day.

With deep gratitude to for leading our first retreat with such generosity and skill. Our team who held everything together behind the scenes. And to the wonderful painters who came, we thank you for your trust.
