For the last month we have been accompanied by Agata Kutniowska, who is doing an internship at Arabia Art Department Society as part of her degree at Royal Danish Academy on Bornholm. The internship is supported by the Erasmus+ international traineeship programme.

Agata has a background in design and now spends her time exploring contemporary art with focus on ceramics and clay as a material. Here at the department she is assisting with daily tasks while gaining insight into different approaches of working in the field of ceramics.

Through internships, emerging creators have an excellent opportunity to deepen their skills, build professional networks, and learn from experienced artists. International internships broaden perspectives and allow knowledge to be exchanged across cultures.

We are happy to have Agata working with us!

Last days of Arabia Art Department Society’s group exhibition at SEB Window!

Since 2023, the project has provided a lasting stage for our artists and an opportunity for bypassers to have a peek into the captivating world of ceramics. For 2026 our collaboration project ”Window” together with Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, will be put on hold. We hope to be back in the window sooner than later, thank you SEB!

At the core of our work, right next to the artists, lies the inspiring work of invited visiting artists. Every visiting artist works to produce a unique sculpture series in collaboration with the association. Our current visiting artist Maisa Majakka is now working to finalise her sculpture model.

Maisa’s work is often centered around the human and its mundane but significant moments. Her attention to detail lies at the heart of her figurative sculptures, portraying images of personal experiences, phenomena and pop-culture characters.

Maisa is a heartfelt, calm and joyful spirit to be around who inspires us all at the department. We are proud and honoured to have her working with us!

One Way or Another
Caroline Slotte & Paul Scott

January 9 - February 28
HB381

”HB381 is pleased to announce One Way or Another, a two-person exhibition of new ceramic works by Paul Scott (b. 1953, United Kingdom) and Caroline Slotte (b. 1975, Finland). Slotte studied ceramics with Scott when he was a professor at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design in the early 2000s and their practices have dovetailed in various ways since. Both artists invoke the storied space of European porcelain and faience wares as a repository of cultural mores and readymade imagery. Collectively, they draw on the history of objects as an apt framework for parsing psychological and political affairs of the present day. While their techniques for altering these historic objects find different expressions, their attention to this space of visual and material culture is equally acute, feeding into discourses on craft and cultural studies and museological concerns around heritage and preservation.”

”Slotte’s lyrical interventions into the surfaces of blue-and-white transferware mark her subjects through acts of selection and deletion. Vaporous landscapes, clarified from the now classical scenes of the porcelain tradition, emerge out of porous accumulations of pixel-like spheres akin to halftone dots. The Blue Willow and Wild Rose patterns are prominent, but there are others like J. Jamieson & Co.’s Bosphorus Blue, depicting attenuated minarets lining the Bosphorus Strait, and numerous scenes that evoke far-flung travel vistas and locales. Slotte’s alterations to the originals unsettle and transform their mass-produced subjects, changing our experience of longing and wanderlust into something more reflective, opaque, and uncertain.”
