Mikko-Pekka Hanski first heard this song when he was in eastern Ukraine, in the Zaporizhzhia direction, traveling with a mobile unit of the Cultural Forces of Ukraine for the first time as their guest.

Two Ukrainian artists, Lana Rednich and TUR, performed a song called Сила — "Syla," Strength — for an infantry unit. He didn't understand a single word. He knew, in that moment, that this song had to come into Finnish.

That song is now out. We called it - Voima.

The verses are not written by a songwriter. They come from a poem by Artem Nagaichenko, a soldier who served in the infantry battalion of the 1st Separate Tank Brigade. He was killed in an assault in 2023. The chorus was written by Lana Rednich, a singer in the Cultural Forces. The original is performed by TUR, produced by Sasha Chemerov. The Finnish words were written by Jani Hölli. Released by Solovey Productions Oy, licensed from the Cultural Forces of Ukraine.

Culture is not soft power. It's infrastructure — the structure a community stands on, and the way one people can recognize itself in another.

In June, the Cultural Forces bring a delegation to Finland (9–15 June), with an invitation-only event in Helsinki on 10 June.
Voima was the first note.

One week to go and Cultural Forces are in Finland. What are we talking here? Solovey is promoting the concept Cultural Shield of Europe.

The premise is simple: every military attack is preceded by a cultural attack — disinformation, historical distortion, the erosion of identity. If those cultural attacks can be countered, the threshold for a material attack rises.

Finland has built a world-class comprehensive security model. Cultural Shield is the natural next layer of that conversation. The same logic that turned huoltovarmuus into national doctrine applies here: defend the conditions that make society function before defending the territory itself.

10–15 June 2026, the Cultural Forces Ukraine delegation brings these questions to Helsinki. Captain Mykolai Sierga, the unit's founder, joins ODDference for a fireside chat on how culture operates in times of war.

Since r****a's full-scale invasion, culture has become identity preservation, morale, and human connection. Sold-out concerts in bomb shelters. Artists at the front line. Musicians who became soldiers — and soldiers who became cultural diplomats.

Ukraine's Armed Forces have a unit whose weapon is culture: Cultural Forces, founded in March 2022, today 150+ uniformed musicians and artists. Their concept, Cultural Shield of Europe, describes how cultural tools counter disinformation and lower the threshold of military intervention.

10.–15. June 2026, the delegation visits Finland with Solovey:
→ Captain Mykolai Sierga, Founder and Commanding Officer of Cultural Forces, joins ODDference for a fireside chat on how culture operates in times of war. → NAZVA and Ivan Tkalenko (electric bandura) take the Tavastia and Semifinal stage as part of the ODDfest program.

Huge thanks to ODDference and ODDfest for being the kind of partners who turn this conversation into action — and for building a heartline between Finland and Ukraine alongside us.

Слава Україні. 🇺🇦🇫🇮

Solovey — the Ukrainian word for nightingale — is a living voice.

A tradition carried through generations. A song that refuses to be silenced. Ukrainian culture is one of Europe's oldest and most alive: Carpathian polyphony, Kyiv avant-garde, Kharkiv poetry, Crimean Tatar song, Hutsul textile, Lviv coffee houses — a thousand years of layered, defiant, generous creative life, working today in shelters and at the front, in concert halls and startups, at home and in exile.

Solovey exists not with appeal and charity but with work that outlasts the news cycle: songs, books, films, journalism, exhibitions, concerts, residencies, products.

We work from Finland to Ukraine.
The heartline between Helsinki and Kyiv.
