They call him Roberto Savaggio. That's me. The nomad. The wandering minstrel. I bring strings from the deeps to the floor. I'll hold you close. That’s me.

Who brings strings from the deeps to the floor. My biology is from Berlin, where I started on streets and ended up in the clubs. I wandered from dancefloor to stage, making sounds and decorating them with strings as I went. Among those places were Kater Blau (Berlin), Ritter Butzke (Berlin), Chateau Perché (France), The Great Wall of China, House of Yes (NYC), Meadows in the Mountains (Bulgaria). I made good friends along the way and made music with them. Among those people were Mount Mike (Melbourne), Dark Arps (Vancouver) and Kostiya (Hong Kong). Sounds were hosted on labels like Traum Schallplatten, Magician On Duty, Suprematic, Submarine Vibes, Natura Viva and now, nomnomnom, founded in 2025 by myself and Dark Arps. Now I live by the sea. So come find me. I’ll hold you close. Whoever you are.

One day many years ago I walked into the Bristol Violin Shop and saw an instrument I had not seen before. It was an 8-string violin with 4 “sympathetic” strings under the finger board that resonated when I played. It was like analogue reverb on steroids - I could tune those strings to any key I wanted and it was so powerful and warm. I asked to borrow it for some recording I was doing. It was only once I’d started processing the stems that I noticed the range of harmonics that thing produced and how rich they sounded. The next day I was back in the shop to return the borrowed piece and to discuss getting my own. Converting my grandmother’s old violin was one of the best decisions I ever made. Every time I play it, I bring her back to life.

What I love about this remix is how much that signature analog funk groove of the Dark Arps techno cave cuts through the wafting strings and couplets to give that melancholy an almost jazzy feel. It’s an experience that takes your expected emotional trajectory and turns it right on its head, face in the dirt.

Throwback to Chateau Perché Festival 2024 when my brother the bard (pictured here in a Breton “coiffe”) a.k.a. Nick Withers the State performed live on stage with yours truly.

Spoken word is among the most ancient arts but layered with four to the floor, its power takes on a new dimension. The body still moves to the beat, but now, so does the mind as words reach parts the music can’t.

Our first collaboration as brothers - Bones After Years - is out now everywhere but next week, Dark Arps takes it to another level when his remix drops 09/09 on
