On June 19, 2026, filmmakers, actors, actresses, producers, screenwriters, composers, artists, journalists, students, volunteers, jury members, partners, and film lovers from around the world came together at the Carlos Saura Auditorium, Faculty of Information Sciences, Complutense University of Madrid, to celebrate the passion that unites us all: independent cinema. 🌍🎥✨

Congratulations to Noor Majid Al Qasimi, recipient of the FICIMAD Tilting at Windmills Award for Best Sound, recognizing the most outstanding achievement in sound design at FICIMAD 2026, for her remarkable work on Rouhi.

Built around the fragile act of preserving memory, Rouhi follows Jawaher as she has only one day to recover her late father's car before it is destroyed. Inside the aging vehicle she discovers an old cassette tape labelled "Dad & Me, Age 7", containing what may be the last recording of her father's voice. What begins as a simple search gradually becomes an emotionally devastating race against time, transforming ordinary objects into vessels of memory, grief, and love.

In Rouhi, sound is not merely a technical element—it is the very soul of the film. Every mechanical click, every silence, every breath, and every fragment of recorded voice carries emotional weight, allowing the audience to experience grief not through exposition but through sensation. The delicate sound design transforms absence into presence, making the invisible tangible and giving extraordinary dramatic power to the smallest auditory details. Few films demonstrate so clearly how sound can become memory itself.

Making her directorial debut, Noor Majid Al Qasimi displays remarkable confidence and artistic restraint. As writer, director, producer, and sound architect of the film, she constructs an intimate cinematic language where every creative decision serves the emotional journey of its protagonist, beautifully portrayed by Shamma Al Suwaidi. Rather than relying on dramatic excess, Rouhi embraces simplicity, allowing its carefully crafted sonic landscape to guide the viewer through loss, remembrance, and reconciliation with exceptional sensitivity.
