Get • Pin Pin AN AN - Reinterpretando Amuletos

¡Hola Barcelona!
pin pin an an – reimagining amulets travels from Munich Jewellery Week 2025 now to Barcelona , continuing its exploration of protection, belief, and cultural dialogue.

Dodoer is a collective of four contemporary jewelry artists from Taiwan who work at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary cultural inquiry. Through jewellery as a primary medium, the artists translate intangible systems of belief into wearable forms, reinterpreting amulets not as fixed cultural artifacts, but as evolving carriers of meaning shaped by lived experience, migration, and exchange.

Taking inspiration from Taiwanese amulet culture, the exhibition reimagines everyday symbols of peace and safety — from spoken wishes and red threads of connection to familiar forms shaped by contemporary sensibilities. Through metal and jewelry-making, these belief-laden images are transformed into wearable narratives.

Presented at Amaranto Joies 2026/01/31-02/21, this project brings Taiwanese protective symbols into dialogue with other cultures, inviting reflection on shared human desires for protection, stability, and meaning. This is not only an exhibition, but an ongoing cultural conversation.

¡Hola Barcelona!

新的一年,願一切都 [pin pin an an平平安安] ✨

Get • Safe and sound: An exhibition of contemporary Taiwanese amulets in Munich

✿ Excerpts:

Amulets and talismans are among the most ancient forms of jewellery, offering protection, attracting good fortune, and warding off misfortune or malevolent forces throughout human history. Taiwan, as an island, exists in a dual state, geographically independent yet naturally open to external influences. It has long been a crossroads of diverse cultures and beliefs. Buddhism, Taoism, indigenous customs, and many others have shaped a rich and varied amulet culture, where every region, religion, family and even individual carries their own unique charms and rituals. The exhibition title pin pin an an, a phrase that resonates deeply in Taiwanese culture, means safe and sound. The Dodoer team of four artists—An Chi Wang, I Ting Wang, Yu Chun Chen, and Amal Yung Huei Chao—who are jewellery makers as well as educators in metal and jewellery, explore and reinterpret Taiwanese amulets as objects that provide an anchor, comfort and a sense of security in a fast-paced and uncertain world.

As the New Year begins, we wish for everything to be [pin pin an an — safe and sound] ✨

Welcoming the New Year is a perfect time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. We’d love to share a special reflection from 2025: following Dodoer’s exhibition 《pin pin an an:reimagining amulates》at , the project was featured in a dedicated article by .

We are deeply grateful to the multi-talented creator and writer Anvita Jain for her insightful interview. In the midst of the fast-paced atmosphere of Munich Jewellery Week, she described stepping into the pin pin an an exhibition space—allowing the cultural objects on display to guide her into the Taiwanese amulet traditions. From there, she delicately interpreted our contemporary jewellery works, situating them within a global context of belief, everyday rituals, protection, and uncertainty.

During our conversations with Anvita, many resonances emerged with amulet traditions from her own Indian cultural background. Likewise, numerous visitors shared stories from their own cultures, revealing how these works connect across lived experiences and resonate with the piblic. The article becomes more than a presentation of objects—it unfolds as a deeper dialogue on culture, memory, and the human desire for safety and reassurance.

Looking ahead in 2026, pin pin an an will soon travel to another city. With this new movement, new encounters and reunions will take shape—what kinds of sparks might emerge this time? Please stay tuned.

Our sincere thanks to and for continually creating platforms for meaningful cross-cultural conversations in contemporary craft and jewellery.
