Join us today , Tuesday , December 12 for “
George & Nito – Une Histoire d’Amour “ - حبيبي دائما - " - exhibition at ArtTalks, to celebrate George Bahgory ‘s 91st birthday and pay tribute to the late Nitokriss aka Nito , the wife, daughter, sister, aunt, artist and George Bahgory’s most loyal companion, lover, and fan.

On December 12, 2023 , ArtTalks ‘s first exhibition of the season will divulge the soul and artistically entwined Love Story of the iconic couple :
George Bahgory ( 1932 ) and Nitokriss ( 1932 - 2023 ) through their artworks .

This is their first ever dual exhibition showcasing their respective artworks.

GEORGE BAHGORY (1932)
A prolific multidisciplinary artist, Bahgory is a painter, sculptor, poet, caricaturist of satire and writer.
His media is as diverse: Sculptures, paintings, sketches, lithographs, tapestry, collage, drawings, using oil, watercolor, coffee, china ink, pen, and pencil; on canvas, paper, filter coffee, clay, bronze, stone.
Bahgory graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1955.
He was dubbed “Picasso of the Arabs” and “The Beethoven of Fine Arts. ”

NITOKRISS – (1932 – 2023)
A graduate of Cairo’s Fine Arts School in 1959, Nitokriss Kamel Gouda (1932-2023), known as Nito, forged a career as an interior design engineer working for the Egyptian National Television.
Nito reached the position of Deputy Minister. An accomplished painter and sculptor herself, she chose to take backstage to dedicate her life towards supporting her husband at the expense of her own career as an artist. Nito was not comfortable with exhibiting or being in the limelight. Instead, she was integral to Bahgory’s success, managing his correspondence, maintaining records of his paintings, and liaising with gallerists to keep his career ticking over. Her biggest contribution perhaps is her relentless effort to establish The George Bahgory Museum in Downtown Cairo.
Nito is one of these creative women who have their work overlooked or eclipsed by their husbands’ fame. But in Nito’s case, it was her choice to be viewed as the wife of a celebrated artist, prioritizing her man’s success over her own career.

Nitokriss and George have been married for 65 years.
On 30 August 1959, they tied the knot at the bride’s house in Zeitoun in Cairo. I
Inseparable since their marriage is more than an alliance as husband and wife.

George Bahgory established himself as one of the most influential artists in the Arab world and made Nitokriss, his muse, serve as the model for many of his paintings.

Series : History of the World: “ Aztecs “. L' esprit vif de Nicha by Fatenn Mostafa
“ Like an archaeologist, Nicha rigorously researches and combines his findings with personal experiences to offer a quick-witted human approach to social, cultural, and political history. The result is a light-hearted invitation to a walk-through of different cities, an enriching encounter with vibrant modernist painters, and an educational voyage into moments that shaped world civilizations from the Stone Age and Ancient Egypt to Mesopotamia and Ancient Greece.
To discover all this and more, one needs to zoom in with his/her phone and spend a good amount of time dissecting each painting. They are so rich; they act like condensed history lessons!
In many paintings, Nicha is present, so do look out for him.

Rasha Bseiso (1975) is a visual artist working primarily in large format abstract impressionist paintings, with a special interest in acrylic and mixed media formats. Her work explores the tension between social and spiritual binaries. She received her arts education at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Egypt as well as the Commonwealth University in Qatar. Her practice has been impacted by the multitude of countries in which she has lived and worked as an arts educator, including; Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar and Dubai. In addition to her art practice, she has collaborated with multiple interior designers on commercial and residential design projects. “ Residing between moments of meditation and euphoria, these paintings ponder on the multiple ways of existence between spiritual awakenings and social attachments. Amor Fati embraces the power in the acceptance of everything that has been bestowed upon us as our fate. Strokes of dimmed black mixed with luminous blue represent our ups and downs in life, although it may seem chaotic up close - once you take a step back you begin to witness the harmony of the colors. Balance is found within seemingly chaotic gestures. The large brush strokes are a reflection on lived experiences and personal struggles with often opposing spiritual and social expectations. Figures that carry the weight of cultural meaning are unsettled and obscured, giving way to rethink the relationship between desire, fate and acceptance. This work is the result of an intuitive and bodily impulse to accept the complexities and layers of emotion that weigh down the notion of fate.” ArtTalks Gallery : 8 El Kamel Mohamed street - Zamalek

Rowaa El-Degwy (1985), artworks are a focal delight focusing on stability while moving like a tornado in bronze and fiber with colored patina.
she plays with balance and the pivotal movement of the figure.
She tackles with poetry the importance, strength and beauty of women wandering in a rigid world through the symbols of giving, power and perseverance in a care-free manner to prove the overcome of challenges by stressing on the balance point of the sculpture’s posture which is a proof of the mastership of her technique.

From our current exhibition:AMOR FATI – Love your Fate - Exhibition by: _Rowaa El-Degwy_ _Rasha Bseiso_ From 6 to 9 pm .
A dual sculpture / abstract art exhibition entwining artworks of sculptor Rowaa El-Degwy and and painter Rasha Bseiso who both master the art of movement, balance and fluidity in their own specific technique inline with the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche : Amor Fati defined by :
“That one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backwards, not in all eternity. Not merely bear what is necessary, still less conceal it….but love it.”
The artworks of the exhibition reflect an internal positive energy where women are the anchor and the inspiring force holding a human message of love and embracement of fate.
The softness of the outlines combined with the power of human spirit exuding an amalgam of grace and enchantment are the key point of their artworks.
