Lighting isn’t just a finishing touch – it’s what makes your 3D work look professional or flat. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the essentials:
1️⃣ Know Your Lighting Goal
Before adding any light, ask yourself:
What am I trying to highlight? The shape? The material? The details?
What’s the mood of the scene? Calm, dramatic, or playful?
Is this for a game, a product, or a stylized render?
Without a clear goal, even the simplest model can look lost.
2️⃣ The Key / Fill / Rim Formula
This is the foundation of every successful lighting setup:
Key Light – The main light that defines form and shape.
Fill Light – Soft light to reduce harsh shadows.
Rim / Back Light – Separates your subject from the background, crucial for stylized or game art.
