The math doesn't work Microsoft. I think what Gamepass caters to is the average "normie" consumer. The one who wanna try a good chunk of games, without paying an amount that makes him do his calculations every month. I mean we all are in subscription fatigue now. Yes, Gamepass offers a great library of games, but honestly i check what others are playing, and you see two types of people; one who sticke on a game for months, those games usually are multiplayer/ live service, and the other kind who like to try new things , and see what works with them (and those are the majority). So when you price at 30 usd, you kinda ruin the deal for both, the first kind usually will buy the game, or even cancel because most of these game become cheap after few month, the other will downgrade, or even go to another platform because you lose your competitiveness. Objectively, Xbox is not that attractive in gaming world to start with, i mean casuals play switch, normies play PS, and hardcore will build a PC. The only potential customer you get is the gamer with strict budget, or a fanboy who worships phil spencer. And you already lost the budget camp. So good luck milking the fanboys, i guess the get what thye deserve.
