Exhibitions Assistant
************************
Townhouse is seeking an enthusiastic, engaged and ambitious person to take up the role of full-time Exhibitions Assistant. The position is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the local and international art world while getting hands-on experience in exhibitions-making and various aspects of running an institution.

Job Description:

This is a full-time salaried position. In addition to providing general curatorial and administrative support, the exhibitions assistant will be responsible for the following tasks:

-Conducting research for exhibitions and programs

-Coordinating with artists and institutions to arrange permissions, loans and shipping of artworks

-Working with artists and vendors on artwork production under oversight of curator

-Coordinating the production of communications materials for exhibitions (posters, labels, wall text) and maintain list of technical needs for exhibitions

-Helping curator to oversee and monitor exhibitions budget

-Assisting in fundraising efforts and activities

-Coordinate travel, lodging, etc. for visiting artists and speakers

-Overseeing documentation of exhibitions and events, liaising with Media and Communications to update website, maintain archives

-Participating in the receipt, installation and removal of exhibition art work

Requirements:

-Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken)

-Excellent communication and organizational skills; excellent time-management, ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks

-Enthusiasm for the contemporary arts scene and motivation to learn

-Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, busy environment

Assistant to the Director

Townhouse is seeking an active, confident and enthusiastic person to take up the role of part-time Assistant to the Director. The position is an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the running of one of Egypt’s leading contemporary arts organisations, working closely with the Director and supporting the day-to-day running of the institution.

Job Description:

This is a part-time salaried position. In addition to providing administrative support to the Director, the successful candidate will have the chance to get involved with other activities within the organisation, and work closely with the rest of the team to achieve Townhouse’s goals. Some responsibilities may include:

-Providing administrative support to the Director

-Managing correspondence with funders, sponsors, individuals and other arts organisations at a local and international level

-Planning and managing the Director’s programme of meetings at the gallery

-Maintaining accurate records of funding, grants and corporate sponsorship

-Representing the organisation at events.

Requirements:

-High proficiency in English and Arabic with ability to translate between the two easily

-Excellent communication and organizational skills; excellent time-management, ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks

-Ability to work independently and take on responsibility in a busy environment that changes frequently

-Flexibility to work with a range of bodies including funders, individual patrons, corporate entitles and directors and curators within the arts

-Detail oriented with the ability to take on a multitude of tasks at any one time

-Mastery of OfficeSuite, basic familiarity with other software like Adobe/Photoshop

Townhouse is currently seeking interns to join us for our 2015 season.

Our interns have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in several different areas of arts administration. The internship offers the chance to gain practical skills while meeting and working with artists from around the world, interacting with directors and curators from some of the top arts institutions internationally, and taking advantage of educational opportunities both through Townhouse workshops and programs offered at nearby art spaces and cultural centers.

Townhouse interns have gone on to work and study at some of the world’s leading arts institutions, gaining acceptance into prestigious educational programs such as the De Appel curatorial program, Goldsmith’s, the Courtauld Institute, Bard, and the NYU Institute of Fine Arts; working at institutions such as the Serpentine Gallery (London), the Riwaq Gallery (Bahrain), Sotheby’s (New York), and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (London); winning research grants such as the Fulbright and the Andy Warhol writer’s grant; and starting their own magazines, galleries and other initiatives.

In addition to general support, we are currently seeking interns in the following areas:

Graphic Design

Townhouse is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic intern to take up the role of part- time Graphic Design.

This is a paid internship position that allows the successful candidate a chance to have their work published internationally, with responsibilities that include:

-Designing and printing online and offline publicity materials for monthly programs

– Research of local printing houses and supervision throughout the printing process, in collaboration with the exhibitions assistant.

Requirements:

-Fluent in Arabic and English (verbally and written)

-Demonstrated experience of working in a deadline-oriented environment

-Interest in contemporary arts and a motivation to learn

Townhouse Rawabet
************************
Townhouse Rawabet is seeking a confident, enthusiastic and ambitious part-time Intern.

This is a paid internship position. Rawabet opened its doors in September 2006 and has catered its full program to a steadily growing audience ever since. Recently upgraded with professional lighting, sound equipment, a multipurpose stage and seating for up to 200, Rawabet hosts a wide variety of productions, ranging from theatre and music performances to film screenings, workshops, conferences, and more.

Responsibilities include:

-Monitoring the preparations of Rawabet according to the requirements of each event

-Documenting the various events that take place in the space through Photography and Video Production.

-Producing and editing original content to create high quality video that can be used for publicity/documentation purposes. This includes shooting, editing, and post-production.

-Assisting the Rawabet Manager with incoming applications and working with them to curate the performing arts programme.

Qualifications:

-English and Arabic language proficiency

-Strong interest in the Performing Arts

-Ability to work flexible hours and during weekends if required.

-Proficient with Lightroom and Final cut

-Ability to work in a team
