In 2023 at 4 a.m. inside a Gaza hospital, a little girl terribly burned asked nurse: “Do you see me?” The nurse told her yes. “But I can’t see you,” the child replied.

Rajaa Musleh had sought shelter at the hospital after her home was bombed. For over 40 days, she treated devastating injuries with no sedation. Among them was this 10-year-old girl, blinded by burns, whose family had already been killed.

Musleh sat by her bed, offering comfort. When the child asked about her family, she had no answer. She stayed by her side for hours until the child passed away.

Musleh survived a six-hour evacuation walk to Al-Mawasi, but she carries the memory of the simple comfort of a human voice answering in the dark: “Yes. I see you.”

Behind every conflict, there is a scream we cannot ignore. We refuse to let these stories be buried in the darkness of war.

For them, we keep SCREAMING.

One thing we wish more people understood about domestic violence:

You don’t always KNOW you’re in an abusive relationship while you’re in it.

Sometimes you’re just trying harder.
Trying not to make them mad.
Trying to explain yourself better.
Trying to keep the peace.
Trying to get back to the person they were in the beginning.

Until one day you realize how much of yourself you’ve lost.

That’s why we have to keep talking about it. 💜

BREAKING NEWS
The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to the Canadian author Anne Carson, “for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.”

Anne Carson was born in 1950 in Toronto, Canada. In 1981, she published her doctoral thesis in Classics entitled ‘Odi et Amo Ergo Sum’, and has, throughout her entire career, combined poetry writing with translation work and teaching at various universities. Almost all her literary production has centred upon the intersection between the philologist’s obsession with words and the poet’s desire for new meaning. She has herself identified the etymology of words as the starting point for all her work. Her translations from Classical Greek may be regarded as independent works in their own right. Among these is her interpretation of Sappho’s poem fragments, ‘If Not, Winter’ (2002), along with tragedies such as Sophocles’s ‘Electra’ (2001) and ‘Antigone’ (2015) and Euripides’s ‘Bakkhai’ (2015).

In the 1990s, Carson published a series of notable works. Among these is ‘The Glass Essay’ in ‘Glass, Irony, and God’ (1995), which demonstrates the potential of the long poem where genre boundaries are seen to blur.

The same decade saw the publication of another work, often heralded as Carson’s greatest, entitled ‘Autobiography of Red: A Novel in Verse’ (1998). This demonstrates her eminent ability to actualise the classical literary tradition. With a precise feel for contemporary idioms and experiences, she takes as her starting point poem fragments by the sixth century BC Greek poet Stesichoros concerning the winged red monster Geryon.

Throughout her entire authorship, Carson with a light touch explores the possibilities of writing, a process by which the literary sketch has become of particular value to her. Bearing witness to this is ‘Float’ (2016), a work consisting of twenty-two chapbooks on different subjects, capable of being read in any order. Another is ‘Wrong Norma’ from 2024, a diverse combination of texts with a strongly performative aspect in which Carson crosses over into various artistic and academic fields. Her collaborations with visual artists and choreographers and with opera and theatre directors demonstrate the freedom with which she relates to literary expectations and rule systems. It is this that lies behind the outstanding importance her work since the 1990s has had for the international art and literature scene.

Navi Pillay: Justice Is Essential to Peace

Navanethem “Navi” Pillay has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote peace and international law.

A South African jurist and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Pillay has spent decades defending human rights and advancing international justice. Her work helped establish that r**e and sexual violence can constitute crimes against humanity and acts of genocide.

At Woman Scream, we believe that peace cannot exist where women and girls live with violence, discrimination, and fear. Justice requires accountability, and lasting change requires people willing to speak out and challenge abuse.

Let us recognize the women who dedicate their lives to justice and continue raising our voices for those who are still waiting to be heard.

THREE LIVES LOST, HOW MANY MORE MUST WE MOURN?

On September 28, 2026, a 10-year-old Black child and two Black women died while attempting to cross the English Channel.

A child. Two women. Three human lives lost at sea.

Behind these deaths are stories we may never fully know, dreams that will never be fulfilled, families left grieving, and futures that will never unfold. We may not know their names or the circumstances that led them to undertake such a dangerous journey, but we know that their lives mattered.

What does it mean when a child’s journey toward a different future ends in the sea? What desperation, what hope, what unbearable circumstances lead people to risk everything for the possibility of a safer life?

These deaths must not become just another headline, briefly mourned before the world moves on.

We must look beyond the waves and recognize the human beings behind the tragedy. We must confront the conditions that leave people feeling they have no safe path forward, and question what more can be done to protect lives and prevent such losses.

As WOMAN SCREAM, we raise our voices for women whose lives are endangered, for girls whose futures are threatened, and for all those whose suffering goes unseen or unheard.

Today, we mourn two women and a child. We recognize their humanity, their dignity, and their right to be remembered as more than victims of a perilous crossing.

Their deaths remind us that the struggle for women’s safety cannot be separated from the struggle for human dignity. No woman should have to risk her life to seek safety. No child should have to face a journey that ends in such tragedy.

May their deaths awaken our compassion, deepen our sense of responsibility, and strengthen our determination to build a world where safety is not a privilege reserved for a fortunate few.

Three lives. Three absences. A grief that crosses borders.

SCREAM, because silence cannot be our answer to human suffering.

We are WOMAN SCREAM.

Four male students invented the nail polish meant to protect women.

The Undercover Colors nail polish came from four young men at North Carolina State University, built to fight drink spiking. They met in an engineering startup program on campus.

Four young men built a nail polish meant for women, and that was part of why it went viral. Some cheered them on, others asked why women should carry the test at all.

Should men be the ones building tools against spiked drinks?

March is when more people hear about us, but WOMAN SCREAM takes a full year of preparation.

Once we open the call for participation, people from all over the world join our cause. We create free spaces for participation and support the voices of those who have much to say about the different forms of violence affecting women and girls around the world.

We bring together poetry, art, and activism, but our strength lies in bringing strong voices together for a more just world.

Our social awareness campaigns and community events are coordinated simultaneously in different cities, taking the message even further. These actions are made possible by the wonderful people who support us by coordinating and participating. People who become part of the movement and help it grow with every edition of WOMAN SCREAM.

The international festival is the visible part. Behind every activity are courageous people who work with dedication to make it happen.

WOMAN SCREAM is made by many hands, with love, so that it can reach yours.

Support us, share, participate. You have a VOICE too, and that matters.

People don’t come to our cause just to listen. They come because they want to be part of it.

Men, women, families, and entire communities come together because they believe in the common good and in the possibility of creating real change through culture and the arts.

Whenever we organize a cultural event, our goal is to bring people together around an important message: respect, self-esteem, and an end to violence against women and girls.

We also want that message to go beyond the event itself. Beyond the room, the stage, or the date. We want people to carry it with them, share it with others, and help turn it into hope.

That is why we continue building Woman Scream, a cultural network that connects communities, opens conversations, and creates a stronger sense of commitment than a single campaign can achieve.

When we come together, the world hear us. Join us.

Woman Scream: Our Commitment Against Child Marriage in Brazil

Continuing our mission against child marriage, we gathered at the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, with partners in our cause. This event reinforces our dedication to childhood protection and the fight against early marriages, an initiative launched two years ago with a focus on schools, given the alarming increase in cases across the country.

Collaborators and allies of the 15th Woman Scream Festival (Grito de Mulher) convened in Brazil, thanks to our coordinator Soira Celestino, the festival’s representative in the country, with the support of Deputy Maria Luísa, yesterday, at the Alesp premises.

The central theme of the event was “Child Marriage: It’s Not a Game.” According to research conducted by Unifecaf, Brazil currently ranks 4th globally in formal child marriages—a statistic that underscores the urgency of this debate.

The event featured the participation of the President of Associação Manas Pretas, who joined Ednusa Ribeiro on the panel to present the organization’s projects and actions. Other committed institutions also participated, such as Bibli-ASPA Centro de Cultura, which showcased its project supporting refugee women and girls through art, as well as Plan International Brasil and other allied organizations.

Also present were Professor Carlos André, an activist for children’s rights and a writer, and Dr. Cleide Aparecido Vitorino, whose intervention concluded the event with a profound reflection on the necessity of combating child marriage in our society.

We extend our gratitude to all institutions, activists, and collaborators who participated in this crucial event in defense of girls’ rights in Brazil.

For them, we scream...
